by Michael M. on This club is alright. People should check your receipts carefully when you pay with a card. They automatically add gratuity to the bill. So drunken people can easily mistake it and tip the bartenders twice. We went on a Saturday night. The music was good. The crowd was fun. Drinks are very expensive!! 20$ for a shot.
by Jason L. on It was March Madness and my Golden Bears needed all the good luck I could muster for our 2nd round showdown with #1 Duke. So it made perfect sense for me to go to a sports bar called San Francisco Saloon in the middle of West LA. Upon walking in, we were greeted with not just friendliness but organization, as the guys working there were figuring out which tv (there are a lot) would show what game and helping us find a spot where we could make sure to see the game we were there for. Sure beat the shitshow at Joxer Daly's, where games were constantly being changed despite our pleading screams. The decor lives up to the name (the saloon part, not so much the SF part), as there's an old-fashioned, woodsy feel. It's all very comfortable and laid back, with lots of tables and booths. The menu here has classic bar food with a good number of burgers. I ended up ordering the 49er burger, which came with blue cheese, mushrooms, and sauteed onions and a salad on the side. The patty was well-seasoned, with a straightforward meaty/salty flavor, nothing too complex. The blue cheese added a nice bite along with the savoriness of the mushrooms and sweetness of the onions, it all added up to a solid burger. My only gripe is that I asked for my burger medium rare and it came out medium well. The side salad was fresh and salad-y, nothing bad to say about it. The only real problem with my time spent here is that Cal did not pull off the upset as I had been predicting. And while I really can't blame the loss on SF Saloon, I blame it on SF Saloon. I mean, this place really should not have a neon "Go Bruins" sign hanging on its walls...it's just bad karma.
