by Eva V. on This past Friday a friend of mine turned 25 and in celebration we headed to XIV for their happy hour. Ordinarily this place would be too rich for my blood, but my friend promised that their happy hour would be on the pricey side of reasonable. I'd heard great things about this place so I'm was pretty excited to put on a fancy frock and live for just a few hours like I'm not a poor grad student. The place is gorgeous, and you definitely feel like you're in for a swanky experience, especially if you venture into the dining room which is lavishly decorated and very romantic. We had our happy hour experience on the patio which was also romantic and lovely. The patio has big round tables with comfy padded wrap-around seats that made intimate conversation very easy even with such a large group. The waitstaff was prompt, friendly, and professional. We weren't able to split our bill but they were very accommodating about taking multiple cards to pay for our tab. I didn't have any of their appetizers, but my boyfriend ordered their lamb burger mistakenly thinking that it was on their 50% happy hour menu. He was very mistaken, and even though that lamb burger ended up costing $18, he did say it was damn tasty. To drink, I had their Cali Fizz cocktail and a mojito. Well, to be honest, I had several sips of everyone's drinks, 2 Cali Fizzes, and a mojito. Everyone was very impressed with their drinks and the Cali Fizz was the definitely favorite. All of their cocktails were original, delicious, and suited every taste. Even though it was a pricier evening than I'm used to, I think it was totally worth it. We had a great time, had some great drinks, and felt like beautiful people for a few hours on a Friday night.
