by Alexander M. on Silk City is always worth the trip across town, whether it be for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or late night drinks. The converted rail car design is made to evoke the feel of a classic roadside diner, but the interior is something entirely different: a bright, active design that's fun just to look at. The main diner is bookended by a fun outdoor setting and a tight club area, but the food has always been the main draw. The Silk City Burger is my personal favorite in Philadelphia. However, it might have been topped by the Flounder Sandwich I had last time. Salads, wings, Mexican... it's agonizing to make decisions, as they're all done so well. Silk is a supreme place for drinks with friends (I love the bar area more than any other in the city). If you like a decent drink selection, attentive bartenders, and a fun environment, this is where you go. IF you like overpriced Budweiser, an ugly background, and a general air of douchiness... hey, Finnigan's is down the street. (Sorry... had to get some obligatory Finnigan's bashing in somewhere) To top it off, Silk is an excellent stop for brunch. Good, quality food and coffee at a price that beats most establishments. There's never a wait, and the staff has always been good. Silk City is a great default go-to place for hungry Philadelphians. It's always worth the trip across town.
by LR .. on i wish i had read the reviews before i decided to go here! the place really does suck - the only good point is that its open till around 4 AM - so if you really want to dance, this could be somewhere you could go after 2. Caveat - you still pay a cover (ever after 2), you may end up with a little blood on your shirt (people love to fight there), the music really sucks (the DJ was kicking someone's ass too), the crowd is really sketchy (and I am not saying they were drawing caricatures!) hmmm - i tried to say something nice - but well - just go home and listen to music if you aren't ready to sleep!
