Great beer, great food, and the best place to catch a show in Philadelphia. I've been going to JB's for a while now, but nothing will top the night of my 22nd birthday. MGMT was playing upstairs -- long before 'Kid's was playing every other song on the radio. We bar-hopped from Bob and Barbara's on South all the way to JB's. Needless to say, we were already drunk once we got there. We thought we might be able to scalp one of the $17 tickets, but grossly underestimated MGMT's preliminary fame. No tickets were to be had -- even for the birthday boy. We lit a cigarette and began walking home when a van pulled up in the alleyway next to JB's. Sure enough, MGMT's opener, Yeasayer, was unloading. I gave them my drunken birthday sob story, and they told us to hold the door for them while they unloaded. Moments later, we were ushered in through the backstage area and into the crowd. During their set, MGMT even gave me a b-day shoutout. It was the most memorable birthday of my life. And it was only possible at a venue like JB's. On a side note: the food is somewhat pricey for what it is, but it's good. The carnitas tacos with refried black beans were excellent. They make a good falafel as well. The beer is always rotating and always excellent, with a $3 Kenzinger the last time I was there. An easy 5 stars, even without the crazy concert story.

Low-key space with lots of outdoor seating and a solid wine list. Food is apps, sandwiches, and pizza. This is the kind of place that you can hang out at for hours. Great for groups and lazy evenings!
