I stopped by for a quick lunch at Bobby's Burger Palace while paying a quick weekend visit to Philly with my girlfriend. All of the burgers are pretty reasonably priced (generally in the range of $6-8 or so), and there's plenty of variety in terms of the kind of burger you can get. I ended up getting the LA Burger, while my girlfriend went for the Bobby Blue Burger. We also ordered a side of sweet potato fries and a milkshake as well. It was pretty packed for a Saturday afternoon; we weren't able to get a seat at the bar, but we ended up scoring a seat at the end of a table. Service was very quick despite the crowd - we got our burgers a little over 5 minutes after sitting down. The milkshake was great - not too heavy, but still tasty as the classic. The fries also surprised me as well...I've had sweet potato fries, and generally I'm put off by the 'sweetness' of the fries. These were more fried and tasted great with one of the many ketchup assortments that were available. As for the burger itself - it was delicious. I have been a hamburger guy my entire life (I detest cheeseburgers), but even with cheddar melted all over the pattie, I still enjoyed the burger immensely. The avocado relish added that unique avocado flavor I'm a fan of, and a mixture of the chipotle ketchup and the burger sauce really brought out the flavor of the entire sandwich. My girlfriend was a huge fan of the Bobby Blue; I thought there was a bit too much Blue Cheese on it, but it was still very delicious as well. So why only 4 stars? Simply put, I honestly feel like I could create this burger if I took a regular pattie and added the accompanying condiments and toppings. Unlike Shake Shack, where you can really taste the flavor in the burger itself without adding ketchup or the Shack Sauce, I thought this was a rather ordinary burger that could be easily replicated. Maybe it's wrong to hold it to a higher standard, but the restaurant is run by a freakin' Iron Chef - I expect to be blown away, even if it's just a burger joint! The meal itself was fantastic, and I'd definitely come back once in a while for a sit-down lunch (it's a bit heavy, so don't plan on doing anything athletic after chowing down). But the real value-add here is the variety of toppings you can add to the burger...just not the burger itself.

I would like to rate it 1 star so no one goes to it so it remains the best spot in old city to hang out, but apparently its not a secret anymore. Set beneath Weblinc, a web development company, this bar has great food, a fantastic beer menu, and hosts a number of unique and entertaining events each month. $5 burger and fries for lunch (best lunch in town for $5). I had chicken ticas once that came with a mango chutney that was absolutely off the chart good (so good I keep lobbying for it to replace the red cole slaw side. Down with Slaw, Up with Chutney!). The bartenders are all cool. There is a dog with a lightbulb in its ass. I really don't know what else you could ask for...
