Headed out to Sambuca's on a Wed night to see a friend of a friend perform for this radio station's ongoing contest. I looked on the site and saw that the apps were half off from 430-630. Cool with me, I was game to go. When we first arrive, we are delighted to know that valet isn't a set price, they work off tips (cool, we took care of him later that night). Upon first walking in, I really liked the decor. It was dark and sexy, and had a cozy vibe to it despite the place being kinda empty when we arrived. They also have a pretty nice patio too (though it's facing the street). So we sit in the bar area, looking around for someone to help us. Looking around, hmm, no one I guess. So I finally walk over to the bartender and ask him can we see some menus. He hands me a stack and I take them back over to my party. We sit for another 5 mins looking over the menu before a waitress finally comes up and greets us. Looking at the menu, I wasn't to thrilled at the prices for the drinks, but I figured maybe they packed a punch for the price. Wrong! I orderd the Tequila Bliss (Patron-Patron Citronge) and it was so-so. So I went ahead and order my apps, the Buca Beignets and the Buffalo Chicken Lollipops. We sit and chat while we wait for our food and the show to begin. The food was really good. I would reccommend the Buca Beignets to anyone. And the wings were just right, not too hot at all. But feeling thirsty, I tried for another drink. I ordered a mojito (someone else in our party had one and it looked great). Got that, sipped it down, and still, nothing. I wanna give them the benefit of the doubt and blame it on my alcohol tolerance, but I don't think that was the case. Overall it was a good experience. The house band was good and they had some great (and one bizarre) performers go up. I don't think Sambuca would be a regular spot for me, but if I wanna do the "grown up" thing or splurge on a evening out, I'll stop by again.

A visit to Bowlmor is like being immersed in melted Velveeta cheese-product. At first, you are kind of grossed out by the florescent, glowing colors, bridge & tunnel crowd and full-throttle top-40s muzak. After a couple of beers and warm up throws, it becomes warm and comfortable, and you barely notice the garishness. The menu (sliders, skins, nachos) is reasonably priced but lacks the bowling alley classics of grilled cheese on Texas toast with rippled pickle slices, ballpark hot dogs and tater tots. The quality is fine. Mixed drinks were weak but whiskey tango foxtrot was I doing ordering Stoli at a bowling joint anyway? Pitchers are better. They carry Bass for some flava. Not sure what the normal rate is. For our group it was $35/person for 2.5 hours which flew by with much laughter, a few strikes and one or two alley balls. All in all, it's a great location, a fine bowling experience and that's just fine. Velveeta, anyone?
