by An Petti on Dragged the boyfriend here for Nocturne's Thanksgiving eve bash so I could dredge up my gothwear. $10 to get in (usually $7) and $6 mixed drinks ($3 before 11) were pretty reasonable. The music on the "dark" floor downstairs was awesome all night. Second floor had a mosh pit I couldn't understand and was altogether sleazy, but fun for a change of pace. The outdoor area seemed to be catering to people who had accidentally wandered in on a goth night. So yeah, spent most of the night downstairs enjoying the music of my misspent youth and admiring the many lovely outfits. If I knew more people on the Philly goth scene, I would totally be here every Wednesday night.
by Jessica W. on Interesting decor inside...think Tim Burton does a Mexican restaurant. I liked the dark, intimate feel that was created by the different textured walls and velvet booths. The food was pretty good. My friend and I each had a bowl of the tequila shrimp bisque which was nice and spicy but the consistency was a little more watery than I would like. We then split the appetizer vegetable quesadilla which had nice fresh tasting veggies and just the right amount of cheese all in a sun dried tomato tortilla. The salsa tower complete with hot bean dip was a great way to start off the meal and the $5 margaritas were strong but tasted like they were $5. I would definitely like to go back and try one of their entrees and maybe one of their signature margaritas.
by Zana Creese on Bob Bar is excellent and I would recommend it 100%! When I first visited Bob's, I knew this was the place to throw my birthday party. Last night, my friend and I did exactly this -- we threw a joint bday here. The fantastic dancable music (mix of top 20 and slightly older songs), friendly bouncers (totally down to earth), easy to reach bartenders (no horrible drink lines) and accessible bar owner Stan made hosting the bday party stress free. All the guests had a blast. The place is quite small and we were very concerned when our guest list topped 150+. However, Stan was very accommodating and helped us work though potential issues and plan the night. Fantastic place that was packed all night long!
