This was a great little bar. I went for friday happy hour with a friend of mine who is a regular there. It had a great cozy feel with reasonably priced drinks. If it was closer to where I live, I would be there often.

There is a ridiculous amount of hype over this place, I finally tried it out, got a medley of different tacos and quite frankly, wasn't that impressed. They're basically the standard, Americanized tacos that you can find most anywhere else. So you might ask, how did this place build such a following? For one, the people. Marina kids love to push their district border by coming to Nick's and throwing their trust fund down the toilet. Marina kids can build up hype better than any other group in the city. Two, the scene. It's a night club in the evening so the set up attracts a lot of attention and people think it's so clever, "OH! A taco shop during the day and a club at night? How unique!" Yea right. Three, the phrase "Taco Tuesdays". Marina kids love that phrase and flock to any Americanized Mexican joint in the city that has a deal on Tuesdays. Four, the noise. People who don't have anything interesting to say love to flood a bar or restaurant that's so obnoxiously loud, you can't hear a damn thing. It's not that the food was even bad or the set up was lousy, it was actually pretty decent food. But I sure as hell ain't about to put up with the crowd, the noise, or the decor. It's simply not worth it.

Before I went to the Lo Fi for the first time I did a little "Rateclub research." Basically, from what I read, is the Lo Fi is a cool little place with expensive drinks. Being broke, I was scared by this. But I picked up my ball bag and gave up $5 for funk and soul night on Wednesday. Then, to my surprise, there were $2 PBR Tall Boys, and $3 wells. Then, the music started and it was actually good. Then all of the sudden, I found myself in the middle of the dance floor, surrounded by happy people, some having rhythm others looking like Elaine Benes. Then, it dawned on me. I was having fun. But most importantly there were $2 PBR Tall Boys. I dare you to look in a man's eyes and have him deny the beauty of such a low price for this Blue Ribbon winning beer. Especially this man. Cause I woke up Thursday with a smile in my pocket and money on my face. Or was it the other way around? Damn PBR.
