4 stars for the restaurant, 2 stars for the club scene = 3 stars overall. I love me some Mediterranean food. I'm no expert, but I've had my fair share of cuisine from this geo. The high points: the short ribs were delish...I mean I could tell from the dark color that they were going to be really good before I even dove in; the pomegranate chicken was also good...maybe my favorite dish; the scallops were also a contender for my favorite dish...perfectly cooked and well garnished; the lamb was decent...not too gamy, but a little dry. They had complimentary pita chips with olives and an aioli, which was excellent (wish I had more). The portions of the plates mentioned above are moderate so if you're hungry or sharing with several people, I'd order an extra dish or two. We also had the sampler platter - the hummus was very good and so was the baba ganouj - just the right amount of flavor and smokiness and a VERY smooth texture. The mousaka was MEH. Something about it was oddly different from others I've had. On the upside, though, the pita bread they brought out with the sampler was PIPING hot. On a Friday night, they seat until 10:15pm and the service was not slack at all! We were also seated in the back left corner which is close to the kitchen (fast service) and near the eventual dance floor. The rooftop patio was nice and I'm sure if it was a warm summer's night (not autumn in July), it would've been more hopping. The mezzanine was pretty slick and there are bathrooms on ALL 3 floors. The club scene is on the middle-aged side. The DJ played some hip tunes, but it quickly turned into a melange of 80's, hip hop, white folk mashups. I think the attached hostel brings some of the demographic to life - although there was this 80-or-so year old man totally getting down...definitely the high point of the night. Reminded me of the guy from the Six Flags commercial dancing to the Venga Boys. Bottom line: this place is spacious and has great food with a good drink menu, skip the club scene. Ordering 4 dishes for 3 people came to less $ than I thought. The rooftop bar is CASH ONLY, but you can order drinks downstairs and bring them up.

I plan on checking this venue out again as it seems the theme or events change. My experience in one night was like this... first came the paintings (gallery), next an auction, onward to some live music, and later a DJ. It seems to be a good place to socialize with the fashionable and art loving people of SF. Now it was a bit overcrowded, as the crew I was with dragged me out at one point during the evening to find another venue with more room to dance.
