Went to visit the Kid in Berkeley...The Abbey is somewhat famous among world-wide Glasgow Celtic/Liverpool fans and we were not disappointed...Very Celtic/Scouser oriented, so everyone "got" what we were talking about. Great, old-world service and a wonderful, malty Saturday afternoon in congenial surroundings...Only regret is that I forgot to purchase the official Celtic polo shirt...On the way back to Berkeley, had to "strain the potatoes" three times! The hallmark of a classic pub! One important caveat: In no way, in no words, indicate even a mild approval of Manchester Utd! This may jeopardize your life-span. (I heard Wayne Rooney referred to as "Shrek" for the first time in the Abbey!)

Dark, intimate and kind of scary... but in a good way. I went here to see Janelle Monáe on a Monday night. Walking in, or should I say down, you enter this dark, mysterious basement that sorta reminded me of Silence of the Lambs. The bathrooms were even darker and scarier, but it added to the charm. This is a great place for an intimate show but if you are short, make sure you secure a spot in the front. Half of the show I couldn't see a thing but eventually found a spot inbetween the tall folks in front of me. They have a full bar and serve food, I even think you can reserve a table so you can watch the show and enjoy your food/drinks. There is also a pool table so you can hang out and play while waiting for the show to start. Overall, definitely a place with character. It feels a little gothic and bordello-ish. Like a place where vampires used to hang out in the old days.
