by Kai H. on The wait for this place was not terrible at all. About 15-20 min wait on a saturday night. STRICT DRESS CODE. They won't let you in if you're wearing jeans, sneaks, tees, so dress to impress. There's parking for $4.50 a block away. Just follow the guys with the glowsticks, if they're there. Going into this place, I swore I was back in the prohibition era. Underground venue with great ambiance, surrounded by metal structures, jazz music filling in the background, and black and white silent films playing on the walls. Expect to pay a bit for the drinks. There is plenty of places to sit and the people are pretty chill about sitting in the reserved area. You'll feel like you took a trip back in time.
by phil h. on You ever find yourself watching one of those Real World/Road Rules Challenge marathons on MTV? If so you've probably thought "Wow, these kids are so young and so dumb!" Now imagine that same group of kids at a bar/club. Yes, that would be the scene at Sugar Cafe on a Friday night. I know I'm old but these kids made me feel ancient. And that's not all, folks! The drinks were lame (I'd much rather pay $11 for a cocktail at Bourbon and Branch that's made with love) the music was bad and did I mention the crowd sucked? I really like the fireplace and the big picture window...actually, I'd come back to Sugar Cafe during the day for some coffee and a snack. But the scene on a Friday night? Not so sweet.
