In a past youthful life, I was an aquarium freak, needing to visit as many as possible on my travels. Each one is special and unique in its own way and has its own pluses and minuses. Being a Chi-town gal, the Shedd Aquarium will always hold a special place in my heart, and I may review it at a later time. Having read through several of the previous reviews for the Georgia Aquarium, I will refrain from elaborating on all the exhibits. It's been done already, over and over. I will, however, offer up some suggestions for those who are real crowd-haters. First off, if you can possibly do it, go during the week when school is in... and not at holiday time. You will invariably get the occasional "field trip" group of kids, but not the hoards of people you will see on a weekend. Second, you can always get a deal on tickets. Go online and look for discounts. They are there and you should not have to pay full price. Last, but not least, if you live in the area and anticipate that you will come at least twice in a year, buy the annual pass! It is so worth the money. We have out-of-town guests often and it seems they all want to go to the aquarium. Your annual pass will get you a 10% discount on your guest's tickets (and don't forget that seniors get a discount, too). With that annual pass you get to (this is my favorite perk) enter through the member's entrance with no reservation time...usually NO line, friendly staff, bathrooms right there before you get in to the aquarium itself. You will enter on the upper lever and can stand and watch a little of the goings-on and plan your strategy. You also, of course, get a food and gift shop discount, AND a 20% parking discount with the pass. All in all, we love this aquarium and are thrilled that we have such a nice attraction so close to home....but not too close!

We knew someone who was holding a party there but we were not on the guest list this time so we had to pay the $20 cover to get in. The nice thing about Blvd3 is the space. Outside the tables with the cabanas and fireplaces. Inside there are multiple rooms, the dance floor, and different levels looking down on the dance floor. While the place was packed it never seemed stifling so. Typical Hollywood drinks and drink prices, so no need to elaborate more there. It's not the drinks, it's the people and the atmosphere that make this place. There was good music too and the dance floor was jamming. The bathrooms are SO far away - down a long hallway near the private rooms. And the bathroom itself was kind of icky. The attendant didn't even look up when I walked in and then washed my hands. I got my own paper towel to dry my hands - what's the point of having a bathroom attendant if they're not going to do anything?? The valet is shared with Social right next door. We rolled up in a Hummer, they must have taken it for a ride since it took almost a half hour to get the car when we left. And the clubs hadn't even closed yet.

I have been to the SF Saloon under a dozen times, but it's always with friends who are "regulars" and I can understand what they see in the place. When you walk in (large folks should open both of the narrow doors) don't wait for somebody to seat you--just make yourself at home wherever you feel comfortable. The decor (probably too fancy a word for it) says "very casual local hangout" and encourages you to consider a beer or other beverage from their stocked bar. I rarely eat hamburgers, but when they're this good, I am perfectly able to make an exception.  My favorite: the "Cable Car" burger which has avocado and mushrooms.  And, if you're going to do a burger, you might as well go all the way and sample the SF Saloon french fries. If you're in the mood for something that feels healthier, I had the spinach salad recommended to me and found that it did the trick. In my experience the food preparation has never been speedy, but with friends to hang out with in a place like this, who's in a rush? One last tip: Though the title may officially be the "San Francisco Saloon Company", I've never heard it referred to as anything but the "SF Saloon" by locals.
