NOWAY! Any place that pats you down and wands you getting in the door is a no-no! They say it's because the Roxy was there before and it was a shady place. I don't really care why. I feel like you lose all personal self when you go. I made it in and turned around and walked out.

I might be a little generous giving this place 3 stars. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because there are few clubs that are really the perfect experience anyway. What I liked: We didn't have to wait in line or pay cover. The bouncers out front were all mostly very friendly to us, all but one guy. Drinks weren't watered down. Music was fairly decent. Rooftop was a nice place to hang. What I didn't like: Such a scene! Apparently Saturday night is the night to go to Kress, and the night it's much more difficult to get in. A photographer straight up told me, "I'd be surprised if you got in tomorrow night, even if you spent 15 minutes talking to all the bouncers tonight. They're just assholes about it and turn down hot girls all the time." Now that's just bad business to me. Although it wouldn't be fair to completely believe the photographer, I would have to experience it for myself and see. But still...asshole bouncers will turn me off to a place. BUT...they were very friendly to us when we were there. Except for ONE guy who didn't want to let us up on the rooftop, even though the other bouncer friend told him to. WHAT AN A-HOLE, GET OFF YOUR F-IN HIGH HORSE. Sorry...it really pisses me off sometimes. I had a fairly decent time there with my friend, but I won't be clamoring to get back in. Especially if it means kissing ass to the bouncers as if my life is somehow enlightened by going to Kress.

Another So-So Ethi restaurant. Went for the office holiday party & was excited to try my second attempt at Ethi in the Bay & especially excited because I was gonna get to sample a little bit of everything. I'll run it down for you... STARTERS- 50/50 -Salad, NEVER order a salad here! $6.50 get's you a sub-par generic pizzaria style green-leaf salad...poor, poor, poor! -Sambussa(Ethiopian Samosa/meat or veggie filled pastry) these were well made & one of the better items on the menu. Choice of veggie or meat, I say go for the veggie ones filled with a spiced lentil mixture...they were firey & well seasoned. The meat ones were just ok & I would order the veggie over them any day. INJERA- a lot better than Waziema's but still lacking that sour flavor indicative of authentically fermented injera. I'm starting to believe that Bay Area Ethi joints purposefully water it down for the western palate...BOO! VEG SIDES- very unimpressed The Kik Alecha(Stewed Lentils) was served COLD...what!!! & it tasted like potato salad. another cold legume dish was also served which I had never seen in my 11+ yrs of eating Ethi and it tasted just like the Kik...potoato salad! The Gomen, a stewed collard-like green was the best veggie dish offered to us and it was average at best. I'm used to a bit more of a richness that is normally supplied by the addition of Kebbeh(spiced clarified butter) and lamb during the cooking process. MAIN DISHES- Great flavors but still leave something to be desired. Doro Wat & Tibs Wat- Both very difficult Ethi dishes to master in a restaurant setting but Rasselas does them pretty well. They have the right color consistency and flavor to hang with some of my favorite Ethi joints- I definitely recommend the Doro Wat. I think the portions are relatively good for the price. Not Waziema portions but let's face it...Waziema's food is not even on the charts, so you might as well get a lot for a little there. Kitfo (kinda like TareTare but not really) - Oh how I was pleased to see that they had this most traditional, most coveted dish on their menu and that they serve it as it is meant to be served RAW and tossed in Kebbeh. My only complaint about it was the texture...I'm used to a coarser chop then they do at Rasselas...to me this one was a bit too fine and pasty, for lack of a better word, but that's more a personal pref. 3 stars because Kitfo puts them on another level & they have Harar Beer. And so, my friends, the Quest continues
