I love Sugar Cafe. Probably because it reminds me of the cafes I really miss in Berlin. It has comfy lounge seating, artwork from local artists, free wifi, plenty of outlets, and a fireplace for those chilly San Francisco days. The coffee is okay, and chill background music makes this a great place to work or just hang out. Update: This place becomes much cooler from around 5pm on. I enjoy it in the morning, but even more at night....

Harlot is the one place downtown that seems to hold some sort of strange mystique for me. When I pass by, I always recall moments I spent inside, which really are hazy at best (they serve alcohol here). The most memorable moment was when a friend and I were fortunate enough to catch a free acoustic performance by Dido. If that's not an ambient memory, I don't know what is. But, given the lush crowd it attracts, I feel a bad experience here is overdue. Like the Airbus A380 or the Octomom, it's only a matter of time before someone builds a bigger plane or pops out more babies, respectively. Until then, I have to say my past three experiences at Harlot were nothing short of wonderful. With a beautiful interior and a convenient location, I really just can't complain.
