by Joanna J. on Calm down, this place isn't all that. Sure it's a power plant, big deal when I'm drunk things are way cooler than this spot. Before you get crazy on me, I'd like to say first that I'm a lover of the early 1900's. When I first heard about this place I was so excited to go, but this place is nothing what it seems. First, long freaking lines! My party was in line for an hour, but decided to pay the bouncer for bottle service to cut through the line. I forgot how much service was, I just know I had to pay $40 out of my pocket to get inside. Second, when rest of the party (including the birthday girl) starts showing up they are stopped by the bouncer. The bouncer would not let them in and had them wait outside even though we had paid for bottle service/reservations. We asked the bouncer nicely that the birthday girl was outside and we had paid for the reservation, but his excuse was the party had to come together, BUT he'll let them in for a fee of "$200 per head." Seriously douche? Third, their DJ was a joke! That girl was rocking out nothing but 90's songs from The Box. Don't get me wrong, some 90's songs can make me put on my tapping shoes, but did you really have to play LEN "Steal My Sunshine"? The last time I heard that song I was in middle school eating hot cheetos. I'm surprised she didn't play Vitamin C. However, one person seemed to be having a blast and that was this drunk woman freaking a random pole to Sugar Ray (wtf?). In the end, this place is nothing what it claims to be and don't let their website fool you! The only neat thing about this place is to check out LA's first private power plant, but unfortunately that's the only bit of history this place has to offer. I expected this place to give me a taste of the past with creepy ballroom music like from "The Shining", but instead it's just another lame place with crappy selection of beer, crappy music, and poor service.
by Candy M. on went on a Thursday Mar 5th 09. place was hard to find with just the address. its in the hollywood and highland center towards orange ave, by metro dog and the shuttle stop. venue was really really nice!! however the crowd was quite eccentric. one guy had a cape, high heel boots, a mohawk, and a hitler mustache. a group of girls were dressed in nice cocktail dresses but were all wearing bunny ears. drinks were expensive $17 for a vodka tonic and a beer. but i think you'll pay that anywhere in hollywood. i might go again, but definitely on a different night.
