by Jenn S. on Rundown - Nice place to meet up with friends - yummy fries - long wait on the weekends. Ive been here a few times for various events and I have a love/hate for this place. I love the ambiance and the decor of this place and hate how packed it can get. This place can have a long wait on the weekends. Going earlier pays off. I like coming here for happy hour and go when it's less packed. The weekdays feel like a bar and the weekends feel more like a club to me. I like the fries for some odd reason. I have to order it every time I come here. I haven't had any of the other food. Once, a fairy girl came with drinks on a cart. I tried the absinthe and should have known that I would hate it....but couldn't resist buying it. Haha
by Emily N. on My favorite restaurant in West Hollywood! Yes, I know, I am an SBE food whore! As soon as you step foot in XIV, you know you've stepped into another Philippe Starck designed restaurant due to it's exquisite decor and layout. I really felt like I was in a Parisian restaurant straight out of Paris. Now on to the food... I've heard many rave reviews about how good Michael Mina's food is so the first time here, I was very eager to see what all the hype was about. I've been here 4 times thus far since it's opening last October and have tried a handful of items from their menu. Those that haven't been here before and have no food restrictions (vegan/vegeterians, food allergies, etc) I would recommend getting the 8, 11 or 14 course menu depending on how many people are in your party or how much you can stuff your face with! These are the notable items that I have customized my own tasting menu with on my visits here: *Crab Crepe- Definitely my favorite item on the menu! Most crab crepes I've had elsewhere always lack flavor, but the ones at XIV are so flavorful and the crab is so delicious! It's served with basil, capers (I don't eat those) & a rich hollandaise sauce *Sea Scallops Tempura- My 2nd favorite menu item. You must try these also, the scallops are cooked just right and are tender! The tempura bits and passion fruit go great w/ it! *Risotto- One of my fave dishes period, is risotto and the risotto here definitely doesn't disappoint. I just wish they had the risotto in other flavors besides the white asparagus I've tried several other items such as the Black Cod, Jidori Chicken (comes w/ the truffled Mac & Cheese), etc but those dishes were just OK. Either way, you can't go wrong if you go with the tasting menu, because you get to try alot of the items on the menu that way. I've always experienced good service here whether it be the hostess or wait staff. This place does tend to get packed so reservations are suggested. You can make reservations through their website, which is convenient. Valet parking is $11. And yes, be expected to drop some $$$ when you dine here.
