by Kyle W. on I was visiting some old friends in San Francisco, and they live a few blocks from Nick's. Apparently they're regulars. So as not to hurt their good will, and status as such, I will not give their names. However, Nick's, as you would expect from a place with such a gringo-ass name, was very mediocre. I didn't dislike it in any way. However, I don't dislike Chipotle either. In fact, I feel Chipotle is probably their closest competitor, quality-wise. It's been a while, but for some reason, I decided tonight was the night to review their tacos. Being from San Diego, every random taco shop has better tacos than Nick's. And if you're extra adventurous, you can find even better tacos closer to the border or on street carts. Trust me... It's worth it. Look up Tacos El Gordo! I lived in NorCal for a few years and decent Mexican food was always hard to come by! However, for those of you yearning for real Mexi-food, Nick's isn't horrible. If I was around SF, I'd probably actually eat here until I found a worthy replacement!
by HB R. on Do you crave Mexican made "Japanese" food? Do you love ramen noodles smothered in liquid smoke? How about steak-umms over glass noodles? If so, then Genki is the place for you. Enjoy the pretentious staff, overpriced drinks, and general disgustingness that is Genki. The raw sushi counter was placed only a few feet from the hot grill. Red flag number one. The place had the smell of bad fish. Red flag number two (and the reason my friend and I didn't order anything raw). All the sashimi and hand rolls coming out were covered in some strange brown sauce. Red flag number three. I know, I know, we should have left at this point. Only reason we didn't is because we'd been told Buckhead is the must-go place in Atlanta, and we'd spent over an hour in a cab getting there. In sum: I cannot understand why this place was jam packed when I visited, or why people were RAVING about how great it is. In my opinion, this is the WORST "Japanese" restaurant I have ever had the displeasure of patronizing.
