I only went once. It was pretty bad. The dance floor was packed, the music was awful. (Just the hit's, not  "dance" music. Wasn't really my style.) The prices were about average. I'm giving a 3 stars because I went on a Saturday and people keep telling me it sucks Saturday and I have to go during the week. soo... we'll see I hear Thursdays are great and aren't insanely crowded.

Given my mild obsession with anything on the water, outdoor dining/drinking and sunset views, I'm shocked I hadn't been to the Frying Pan before last night (Turntables on the Hudson here was always on my to-do list).  I came here with 4 co-workers on a beautiful Thursday night (hooray Summer Fridays to recover!), which turned out to be the right-sized group.  It was pretty crowded by the time we got there around 7, but that was to be expected.  Luckily one of the people in my group is an ace table-grabber, so we only had to stand around for about 20 minutes. We opted to share a few buckets of Corona, which probably equaled each of us drinking way more beers than we probably should have.  Price, $35 for a bucket of 6, is about what one would expect for a place with excellent location and views.  After a while I didn't notice the rocking of the boat at all, though I would not recommend coming here if you're prone to seasickness. Bathrooms were pretty nice considering they're on a boat, and I really appreciated the multiple stalls for women.  The people clearing off the tables were quick and friendly.  The crowd is, well, pretty beautiful.  There was a mix of dress but most looked like bankers/lawyers coming straight from work.  Yeah, vibe is a little douchey/meat-markety, but if you're in the mood for eye candy (for both sexes) this is the place to go. I'm already planning when I can next go back.  Summer, please hold out a little longer!

I liked the food here.  It's very veggie and carb-y.  Not really for the meat eaters I'd say.  So Sugar Cafe is exactly what it advertises... sugary. The drinks, the pastries, the ambiance. I came with some girlfriends for happy hour.  Somewhat accidentally since rateclub seems to claim they have a HH. They don't.  However, the drinks were good and the food was pretty yummy in my book.  Where else would you be able to get an asparagus and mushroom quesadilla?  The goat cheese and  bell pepper crostata was more like a tart - same shell as what you would find with a sweet filling.  Dunno if I'd get that again.  It tasted good but was kind of tiny and I think it would have been better suited to house something of a creme and apricot nature.  My girlfriends were happy with the drinks (champagne cocktails) - all pink and tasting like bubblegum.  I stuck with wine (an excellently cheap and delicious XYZin for $7).  At the end of the night I had some sort of tequila concoction that was supposed to be a shot but I had made into a full drink (the bartender didn't charge me extra).  It was called Kool-Aid and it tasted exactly like that. So all in all, I liked it and I will be back.  Maybe next time with a laptop and for morning coffee instead of happy hour.  Seemed like it was world music night or something with the random music they played once the lights went down.  Sugar Cafe is probably best suited as a simple pay-at-the-bar  cafe or lounge.  It's fine to bring friends but I did feel like we were inappropriately loud compared to the mostly singles and doubles groups.
