I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at Ms. Tootsies. I had out of town guests who had never tasted soul food. (Blasphemy, I know) I was a little leery about dining at Ms Tootsies because I've had good and bad experiences there but it was in the area and they wanted to experience South St (darned tourist). There was no line, we got there about 5pm, and we were seated immediately. Unfortunately the restaurant is extremely dark so after we received our menus we needed the bright light of our cell phones to read the menu. Between the four of us we ordered fried chicken, fried fish, barbeque spareribs, smothered turkey chops, collard greens, candied yams, rice and gravy and macaroni and cheese. Can I be the first to say each selection was cooked to perfection? Our meal was eaten in total silence except for the occasional slip of a smacking lip. (Not me of course) Our waitress, Keisha, was so cute and so sweet. She suggested we order the adult sweet tea (I stuck to the non alcoholic version) and evidently that was pretty tasty, not a drop was left in their glasses (LOL) Our bill including tax and tip was about $130 for 4 adults. I didn't think it was terribly expensive. This isn't a corner store take out, it is a beautifully decorated multi level establishment. Note: If the restaurant were more crowded I believe the tables would be too close for my comfort. The food portions were fine. We were full and we all left with doggy bags. We didn't want leave without tasting dessert (That wasn't nice Keisha, you know we were stuffed and you came over with that dessert tray. Mean Mean Mean) So we all shared a fabulous slice of sweet potato pie before leaving. We waddled our overstuffed guts to the car with a smile on our faces.

When you go to a Irish resturant you would think they might have Irish food, but not Mcfadden's. I'm not sure what's so Irish about a philly cheesesteak or a FRENCH dip.

I've never tried Ethiopian food before, but my bf always raves about how amazing it is so we finally checked out Waziema since it was rated one of the best in the Bay. We got there fairly early around 6 pm and it was pretty empty, there were a few people at the bar but we were the only ones there to eat. We sat down and waited awhile for the bartender/waitress to come over and give us the menus. We ordered the Chicken Stew and one of the Veggie plates, after a fairly long wait our food finally came out. I was starving and thought it was delicious. My only complaint was that it wasn't spicy enough (even though the menu clearly stated that it was spicy). When the waitress finally came to get our plate and asked how it was we mentioned we would have liked it to be spicier and she said well that's as spicy as it gets. My boyfriend joked, oh they don't have any secret extra spicy stuff? And she just stared back blankly and said no....uhhhh awkward. My boyfriend said he's never been to an Ethiopian place that didn't have extra hot as an option.... All in all I would say Waziema as a restaurant is ok, the service was ok, and the food was ok too; I'll probably come back but not with high expectations. You definitely get your money's worth as far as food, so a great recession dinner =)
