by Gayle Peru on I was really disappointed with my meal here. First of all, the hummus was very bland. I decided to mix in random accompaniments, which the server placed on our table with no explanation. Still, no good. I've had better hummus from Whole Foods, if I can be honest. Also, there was not enough laffa! Besides the hummus being pretty lackluster, everything else was OVERSEASONED and the presentation was also a little sloppy and unappetizing. The fried kibbe was weird, difficult to eat (it was like a really dry football shaped meatball) and overall not very tasty. The cripsy sweetbreads was way overseasoned, greasy and dried out to a crisp, almost burnt. The confit chicken was probably the worst--there was about a teaspoon of couscous and really overseasoned chicken. The dessert also missed the mark for me. Obviously, there is no pastry chef at this restaurant. The "warm brownie," which was not warm, was one of the most ordinary tasting brownies I've ever had and the ice cream was already halfway melted by the time it got to me. Awesome. I really wanted to like Zahav--I'm very familiar with these flavors and I was excited to try it out but I was so hugely let down. Word to the wise: don't get the pre-fixe meal because the portions are obnoxiously small and not worth the 90 dollar bill. In conclusion, I left here very upset and very hungry. I guess the moral of the story is that you can't bet that you'll love a particular restaurant just because some people on rateclubs say so. Go and find out for yourselves.
by amanda c. on Some of the best food we had over two weeks in California! Delicious and a totally fun time. Nick's Crispy Tacos is indeed in a nightclub - and despite looking like people who'd been walking around town all day (sneakers, jeans) we stayed quite a while and enjoyed beers as the taco fans became outnumbered by the club fans. The only thing we didn't love were the jalapeno poppers - just too cheesy and not enough spice. But seriously the tacos were amazing.
by Kendrick Turkasz on I GET IT! Trinity: 3 Main areas! I thought there was some weird connection between religion and nightlife areas (i.e. Last Supper Club, Mecca Cafe) I went here on a Thursday night around midnight since we found lil' action passing by Baltic Room (our original plan). The plus side: It was free admission! Plenty of drunk and scary people... but what's new when it comes to most dance clubs. Actually, this one oozed with overly drunk and scary people.... I guess it was the free admission that pulled them in. The music was awesome in the smallest area. Top 40, Old/New School beats... the other areas were playing Drum & Bass and Techno/Electronica. I haven't raved in years so I didn't stick close to those areas. Guys outnumbered the girls, but it didn't seem as bad as the other reviews claim... It's pretty much a luck of the draw with ratios anyways. I suppose I can visit again... but it's not a favorite.
