by Dominique H. on Now...I usually don't do this, but last night (10/09/10) I had a birthday gathering at AJA and if it weren't for the 13 people who made this night wonderful (and the amazing sushi) I probably would have rated this place a 0...if I could! 1. I make reservations (in person -- at the restaurant) early in the week for sat.(10/09/10) @ 8pm -- everything is okay! - I receive (1) phone call on Wednesday saying they cannot accommodate such a large party at 8pm...ok cool...so what time can you accommodate my large party? @ 9:30pm she says...ok that's fine-- there will be a dj/ lounge environment. - I receive another phone call (number 2) Wednesday stating my WHOLE party cannot be more than 15 minutes late or my reservations will be cancelled...okay whatever...maybe this is standard or something..idk! - I receive another phone call (number 3) Wednesday...AGAIN stating my WHOLE party cannot be more than 15 minutes late or my reservations will be cancelled...so I say " I already received a phone call about this" then she says "well we just want to let you know the rules again!" -- okay at this point I'm irritated and wanted to cancel the reservations but had already let my guests know about dinner and I hate changing things last minute! (10/09/10) arrives and we're ALL at the restaurant @ 9:30 PM! -- I ask if we can be seated -- she says we're trying to put together tables to accommodate your large party! 9:45PM I ask again if we can be seated...they're still trying to put together tables to accommodate my LARGE party! 10:00 PM...still not seated...the manager comes and says we're still trying to get tables together for you -- seriously?!? you call me three times and tell ME and my guests not to be late and YOU don't even have tables ready! 10:05 we're seated...GREAT! 1. There is water on the table...so the waitress KINDLY brings napkins so we can wipe it up ourselves...who does that? 2. We don't see our waitress again until 10:20...We don't put in drink/food orders until...10:35! 3. Food is GREAT! 4. I look to the left...there is a table set up for about 15 people...but I only see 6 people...between the next 20 minutes the table fills up -- i hate to say this but at this point AJA is racist...This large party can be seated (without the ENTIRE party being present -- but my LARGE party of African Americans can't)...and then we're seated 35 minutes after my reservations...never again! 5. Where is the DJ? Oh that man up there with the computer is the DJ...I can't hear the music and I don't see anyone dancing...in the "lounge." 6. Check comes...we pay...she comes back and says "oh you still owe 23 dollars"...I'm pretty sure I gave you enough $... then she says "well I forgot to charge you for something"...okay that's fine but don't tell me I forgot to pay you because I gave you what my tab said. AJA closed at 12pm on a Saturday night...but the hours clearly state 2:30 am. That would have been nice to know when I accepted this reservation for 9:30pm.
by Kara F. on you know, i like a dark atmosphere in a club. strong drinks are nice. cheap valet, uh hello, 8 dollars?! SO CHEAP!..but as a smoker, i kinda would like an actual smoking patio. the sorry excuse for a smoking patio here was equivalent to the size of a large gas station bathroom..which also begs the question, why did the club smell somewhat....strange? i'd come back.but it is not someplace i would frequent.
