I came here last night based on a friend's recommendation. I've been to Middlesex before, but it was 3 years ago. The decor of the place hasn't really changed much. My experience the first time was alright, and it was alright last night as well. The drinks are pretty reasonably priced, and I enjoyed myself, so I guess I can't be too unhappy with the place. My biggest complaint is probably the $5 cover charge I had to pay. It wouldn't really be that annoying if I was getting my money's worth, but I wasn't. I got to the bar about 5 minutes after 9 and was charged. When I walked in, the place was pretty much empty. Furthermore, there was no DJ yet and they were just playing random music on the sound system. The DJ didn't arrive until at least 10pm I think, maybe it was 10:30. Why is it that I'm being charged a cover when the place is empty and the DJ isn't even there yet? That just makes no sense to me. The being empty part wasn't even that big of a deal because most places don't really start getting busy until after 10 anywho. But if the entertainment, i.e. the DJ, isn't even there yet, it's a little unreasonable to be charging a cover at that time.

Small initimate place. Some would use the word "cramped" but there's something about a jazz bar that makes it ok to me. Nice menu. Good music. An easy fun place to take your date.
