Came back east for my neice's wedding and stayed at my cousin's friend's place on frankford near girard. Didn't know johnny brenda's from joey coyle's but it always seemed to have cool cats hanging around outside and the neon signs of local breweries didn't hurt either. I was intrigued and the cousin said it was indeed the place to be on girard. We didn't have time while they were there but on my last night while waiting on word from a friend on a place to crash. By the way I am now in love with fishtown. The rateclubs reviews convinced me to go. I had the falafel on the softest pita I have ever had, and the falafel was delicious, not dry or greasy. and the beer! started out with the hand pumped IPA, which was fine but not hoppy enough. then the hand pumped stout, which was outstanding and creamy. then the double IPA, which was hoppy and almost a barley wine taste without being too bitter. prolly the best IPA I've ever had. then the yards extra pale which was great. throw in live music, which there was none of on a Monday night, and it's a 5 star. easygoing, friendly locals. I was accused of whipping out my iPhone as a conversation starter. maybe I did, and maybe I DID! this place would be my second home if I lived in fishtown, which I now want to. maybe I can summer in Philly, lol.

Oh man, you guys take this place way too seriously. It's GHE-TTO. You go to laugh at the crazy people. I've seen things you simply can't unsee at this place. It attracts a wide variety of people...earlier in the night sometimes you see Harvard kids, groups of younger drinkers, the real ghettoness happens on the dance floor upstairs and you won't be privy to that crowd until around 11:30 or so. This is the place to go around 10:45pm-11:20p.m. Go to the second floor. ONLY to drink Scorpion Bowls. 1 should be more than enough for 2 people--costs around 12$ (8 bucks each) If you get anything else--you're totally crazy. Just look at this place--if you want a good martini--go to Cuchi Cuchi--this is the land of the Scorpion Bowl. If you make the terrible mistake of going upstairs to the third floor--god forgive you--I'd go up there just to "see for yourself" but really--drink your scorpion bowl, talk about all the people there, and move onward down Mass Ave. Or you could just stay in Harvard and hit up Charlie's for a rock dive and Noir for martinis. I always feel so good after my Scorpion Bowl and the drunken tipsy stumble down Mass Ave is fantasgreat.
