by Francisco Yoshino on Really great selection of beer. Dozens of bottles -- some obscure ones too -- and about a dozen offerings on tap. This is not your "run-of-the-mill dive bar" as some people suggest. If you're not in the age range of 18-23, Jake's can be kind of douchey and fratty. But it's a large space and they have a pool table as well as beirut. The back room is usually pretty relaxing if there's not a party going on though, if the beer games aren't your thing. Also they have a small outside area, which is always a plus. Never tried the food but it seems like your typical bar fare. But why eat here when you can find a great restaurant in the neighborhood, then come over to Jake's Dilemma after to sample one of the many terrific beers offered? The pricing during happy hour specials is not too shabby either.
by Cody R. on Dang you San Francisco Bakery & Cafe! This place has all the ingredients for a 5 star review.... The location is close for people up north The sandwiches were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Finally! Austin has provided me with a good local sandwich. And the service is awe--.... Stop right there. When we ordered our food my wife asked for avocado. I heard her say it loud and clear... and she repeated herself twice. She loves avocado! The sandwich's come to the table... no Avocado. ok. no problem. I tell the guy who brought it to us, "This was supposed to have avocado". His response? "sorry", and then he walked away. There wasn't a, "Sorry, my mistake", or a "Sorry, I'll get that out to you"... Just, "sorry" Ok! Well, let's get someone else. I flag the next employee, tell him about the avocado, and he takes the sandwich and heads to the kitchen. Excellent! Finally! Not so fast. He comes back and tells me the order sent to the kitchen had no avocado on it. If I wanted to, I could go back up to the counter and order a side of avocado for a dollar. That's the solution? Really? Here is customer service 101... the people at McDonalds even know this one! If the customer orders something (heard by 2 people) and the cashier forgets to input it into the machine then the restaurant remakes or adds what's missing... at no extra charge. They aren't rude, they don't make a scene over 2 slices of avocado, they don't make the customer angry.... that's how it's done. Remember? "The customer is always right?" I would be done with this place forever if it wasn't for their delicious sandwiches. Dang you San Francisco Bakery and your delicious sandwich's! I want to hate you so bad. I want to say "I'm never going back after having terrible service"... but I can't. 1 star for service. 5 stars for food.
by Cornell Woy on Went here most recently a few weeks back for the Gogol Bordello. Pros- bathrooms weren't disgusting, and the sound was pretty great. The crowd was good too- but I assume that would depend on what you were there for. It's obviously a nightclub (disco balls, etc) but I've only ever seen live music here. Cons- the drinks are weak and WAY expensive, even for beer. I also agree with John F.'s observation about the elevated dance floor turning into a pit.
