I went with some friends who were really excited to try it. I was under dressed, but we were sat outside. It was really nice looking inside and out, despite the flying night time bugs that kept landing in my eyes. I was a little disturbed by the strong scent of slaughtered animal that lingered in the air, even outside. Looking at the menu, at items like pork belly and jelly, I was just thinking that this probably was not the place for me. Yet here I was, and I was going to make the best of it. Our waitress was very friendly, but I guess I was shocked by the prices (I don't go out much, but I am not used to paying what I paid for a drink.) The drink had absinthe in it, and I was a little nervous because I have a very low tolerance for alcohol and get a buzz off a beer or two. The drink was very, very, tiny. Throughout the night I felt nothing, not even a buzz of any kind. Not even a slight one, which was disappointing to me considering how much I spent, knowing that for the same price I probably could have bought a twelve pack somewhere or a nice bottle of wine. I was with an interesting group of people and they all enjoyed what they had. They ordered the carrot margarita and a cucumber seltzer water amongst other things. We all split an order of the grits that came with greens and coconut milk. Really tasty. So all in all I am giving this place three stars. Go to this place if you want to feel better about yourself by dropping the big bucks around others who can too. You will feel expensive before, and during, but not after, sadly.

Everyone needs to go to Zahav. And by saying that I realize it will probably become even harder than it currently is to make a reservation. I love the decor. Very warm and simple, with a hint of a middle eastern feeling. The view out the wall of windows is great and the open kitchen is adds to the open feeling. The food was absolutely terrific. We had the tasting menu, which at $36 a person, includes hummus/bread, tower of salads, 3 courses (you choose any dishes you want) and dessert. The hummus was so simple and creamy, almost whipped, drizzled with fruity olive oil and smoked parika that made it heavenly. It was perfect with the just-out-of-the-oven bread. Each salad (a total sampling of 8 different) was unique and delicious, with so many complex flavors to identify. The following 3 courses were all fabulous. The fried cauliflower with a parsley yogurt sauce was awesome. The haloumi with figs and pine nuts was good, but I'd rather order something else next time. The fried Kibbeh was some of the best I've had. The Chicken Freekeh was creamy and comforting. The Bronzino over roasted fennel was flaky and flavorful. I really appreciate that they serve each dish as a separate course because I hate being rushed through my meal. I was concerned that the portions would be small since they follow the tapas concept. There was no cause for concern. Each dish was enough for two people to share. Everything was so relaxed and leisurely. The affogato that I had for dessert was a great finish. Made with Turkish coffee, it was a little grittier than I prefer, but the cardamom ice cream was amazing. The rugelas were good, but I'm partial to my own since everybody tells me I make the best rugelas. I can't wait to go back...the only conflict I will have is wanting to order the same things, but wanting to try all the other things too!
