by Donovan Gooder on The food was good but nothing to write home about. The beer was overpriced. Service was good. The building is cool from the outside and then a let down when you walk inside. The wall lamps are cool.
by Jo M. on My friends and I had a great night at Rouge last Saturday, but that was only because we met a group of ladies at Bubble and got them to come to Rouge with us. Definitely good times at Rouge that night.
by Lloyd Sperier on I headed over to Trudy's (campus) location for post-church lunch with my friend. I hadn't been to that particular Trudy's in quite some time and I figured why not. En route, my friend invited a third person to join us (who was on their way). When we walked in to Trudy's there were about four empty tables and no one in line. I mention this because imagine my surprise when the hostess told us she couldn't seat us because the don't serve complete parties during peak times. I was like, "excuse me?" I pointed out that there was no one waiting for a table but us. She proceeded to point to the sign on the hostess stand that backed up her claim, and then told me that it was a peak time and groups of people could come in at any second. Seriously I was annoyed. The only thing that stopped me from leaving was knowing that I could rateclubs about it later. So we regrouped (still without the 3rd party)...I looked around, there were still empty tables--their smallest table seats four. I walked back up to the hostess stand and told her we were going to eat for two and wished to be seated. She obliged (perhaps realizing how unreasonable she was being) and as we were being seated, I said to my friend, "at least I have something to rateclubs about..." Well she overheard and suddenly became nice to me. Which irks me! Be nice to your customers because they are your customers, not because they have the power to rateclubs! ---- Food wise, I had the queso with pico, beef, and guacamole. It was fine. Not the best I have had by any means, but it hit the spot. Michael, my server did a great job which was a nice contrast from the hostess. If Trudy's is what you are yearning for, might I suggest not going to the one near campus during "peak times," unless your complete party is there. The only problem is, you have no way of knowing what the "peak times" are. The sign keeps it conveniently ambiguous. I am still trying to figure it out myself. If you know, please tell me, I should put it in my blackberry. Restaurants should understand that (a) Your customer comes in hungry, or becomes hungry after smelling your food. We want to eat. (b) The hostess sets the tone for the experience. The food, the servers, etc. have an up hill battle to defeat a bad first impression. (c) If you are a hostess "following procedure," articulate the reasoning sensibly so that the customer understands why she can't eat when she wants to. Otherwise the rule seems silly and the customer is just, well annoyed. Disclaimer: I do understand the purpose of the policy overall, but I don't understand arbitrary enforcement.
