wow, ok, I have to sort out where to begin on this 1-star review. deep breath... here it is.. - Venue is CORNY AS HELL. Red walls, dust-laden chandeliers, and FILTHY mirror-lined walls from which you can see where the condensation of sweat has dripped from many a steamy night from ROUGE party goers (ROUGE? Now that is a whole 'nother review unto itself) -Taco Tuesday special was not so special. Granted the tacos were big, I still didn't appreciate the aggressive up-sell for "Nick's Way" of which I was asked about 4 times total before my transaction was complete. I can't justify paying an extra $1 for guac and adding a hard taco shell to a taco. Those are basic standard taco entities am I wrong? - $3 beers, $3 margaritas. not bad, not great. definitely not Taco Tuesday worthy. -Because it gets crowded, late-comers tend to hover around your table, casting intentional glares to make you feel uncomfortable and rushed to get out of there. Even the staff who came around to collect our empty baskets kept asking "Oh, are you done yet?" When clearly, my friend and I had a full beer each in front of us trying to enjoy each others company. -And here's the kicker: When it came time for my friend and I to leave, we needed some foil wrap to take our extra taco home because we had over-ordered. I asked the girl who came around if I could have a to-go bag, she mumbled something about going to the front register as she pointed and walked away, eying our beers to see if we were finally done yet. I go to the front to ask for foil and the guy has the audacity to charge $1 for a piece of foil and a paper bag! To my disgust, I crease my brow, cock my head and insist "Well, that's pretty cheesy. It's just foil?" He then tries to explain that because it's "so cheap" on Tues everyone over-orders and needs foil...blah blah...they "barely break even"...blah blah. By this time, I'm just over the whole thing, go get a $1 and get my damn foil and get the hell outta there. IF you've ever experienced a Taco Tuesday the way it should be done, i.e. $1 Tacos, $1 drinks, a FUN, non-boring, hum drum crowd, and way better service, you will notice that this is a shame to the name of Taco Tuesdays everywhere. This is quite the rant, I understand. And thanks for bearing with. Consider this; I live 2 blocks from Underdog's on Irving where I frequent Nick's Taco Tuesday specials as well as filling a Mexicana food craving any other day of the week. I LOVE that joint. Staff, service, food, great deals, primo location. My experience at the original Nick's. it was horrendous. This review has no reflection whatsoever on Nick's @ Underdog's which I absolutely adore. Loyal I shall remain, however, Nick's Crispy Tacos of Russian Hill? NEVER AGAIN.
