by Patricia S. on Blue Note is kind of awful :-/ It's a tourist trap and relying on it's old reputation as a jazz mecca. Blue Note clearly overbooks itself with sold out shows that make the paying crowd uncomfortable and hot. They have an idiotic door policy similar to a Meatpacking District club. (not at all my scene) People who have tickets and/or have made reservations have to wait outside, even if there's no show before them and the place is not yet full. The tables are far too close together making it difficult to go to the bathroom and for the serving staff to get to you. Also, you are probably going to end up sharing your table with strangers. A table of 4 will seat 6 somehow. The venue itself looks a little old and rundown. The mirror covering one wall makes it easier to see no matter where you sit but it makes the venue look cheap. The cocktails are severely overpriced (don't they make enough money by overselling their venue?) and the service staff are NOT NICE when you decide you're only going to buy the minimum number of drinks. From the drink special, no less. And no food. Steer clear if you can help it. If there's an artist that you're dying to see, check their schedule, because I bet they're playing elsewhere on another night. If not, go see them anyway, but be warned.
by Corey V. on I really hate crowds. I've never liked the idea of jumping into a huge sweaty drunk crowd of people while enjoying the deafening sounds of any kind of music. Yeah, I know, I'm an old fogy, but I've always been this way. I just really hate people and I really like my ears. Put that together and you see why I hate most clubs. With all that bitching said I have admit that Slide is a nice venue (when it's not packed with people). I was just here on a Tuesday night for an invite only MetroWize party. Free Absolute cocktails is a great way to make the crowd enjoy the evening. The crowd was mixed and I found out that beards are IN or at least there were a lot of guys sporting them.
