by Andrew J. on It is supposedly the best venue in Atlanta and I couldn't agree more. The club looks great inside and they play pretty good music. Friends have told me the DJs are hit or miss...so you're gambling a bit when you go. If you do go, spend the cheese and get VIP...otherwise you'll be grinding on people you don't know all night and yes...you (male) may become a victim of the horrible man/man ass grind while trying to dance with your girl...or by yourself.
by Shannon R. on I just spent what felt like WAY too many hours at Cafe Du Nord, at my boyfriend's "Nerdcore Hip Hop" show. We got in at 8 and barely made it out by 1. It's always nice to check out a new venue for shows in city, and seeing how this isn't necessarily my natural stong point, I'm glad I was pushed into it by default. It starts out as a nice little unassuming doorway in middle-castro, blossoming into an expansive underground-type lounge with a full-on dance floor and stage. I liked the red velvety decor, and the numerous light fixtures extending from the various pillars were also quite lovely. My one big complaint was that my pear cyder had a fly floating on top when it was served to me. No one's fault, right? Just some bad luck, but still a big turn-off. The other thing was that the bartender automatically kept the change, when she owed us back $2!!! Sure, we were going to tip her the two bucks anyways, but you can't just go around assuming that, and not give people back their change! I did find the restroom to be a pleasant surprise! Two very well kept-up powder pink-colored stalls, purse hooks, plenty of TP, soap in the dispenser, and one of those automatic sensor paper towel dispensers (LOVE those!!!) Hey, these things matter, ok, esp. if you are a frequent pee-er, and I am :) Sorry if that's TMI, but in the end, I think there are a lot of us out there...so just something to keep in mind, ladies!
by Domenic Arenz on Webster Hall is still a decent space for band to play but not much else. My two pet peeves with WH is that they make you wait outside for "Will-Call" tickets well after when the tickets say "Doors Open" I suspect they do this to generate street buzz which is just cheesy. I'm glad that it's there and good bands can play a small space like WH instead of MSG but there's still a lameness about it that's unavoidable.
