Well you can't say that Ajna Bar doesn't try. It tries very hard...to be trendy with its decor, music, dim lighting, and general atmosphere. But ultimately, what you pay for is just that -the ambience. The food was mediocre at best. My friend and I ordered the Tuna Tartar, the Sea Scallops, and the Sushi plate. The most memorable aspect of the Tuna Tartar was probably how small the portion was for the price (probably two bites for ~$18). The sea scallops were actually very good -nicely seared on the outside but still a good texture on the inside. The sushi plate...not the freshest quality by any means. At one point my friend couldn't bite through part of the fish and had to spit it back out. Everyone else at the table seemed to enjoy their food though, particularly the rib eye. To be fair, the service was great. I was there for a friend's birthday dinner, and we were there nearly three hours. The staff was attentive, and never at any point did we feel as if we were being rushed out of there, despite a pretty crowded night. Overall a decent experience, but more so due to the company and setting rather than the food.

Sorry kids. I am going to be up front about this one. It should be 3.5 stars because slightly overrated entrees. Wonderful apps and desserts. Nice location and almost cheesy but endearing decor. Now the deets. We started off with calamari. Look - squid tentacles are delicious and these were flavorful, crispy and served with fresh lemon. I had read on rateclubs that it was good and true to the reviews, it was. Not too breaded, fresh and great texture and flavors. Now the entree. We had the lobster pasta with bacon, snow peas in a garlic cream sauce. The portion is huge, so we shared. Again, good reviews from rateclubs, but oops - missed the mark. Sorry Chef. The pasta was cooked al dente, quite well...but everything else was just short of a home run. Sometimes I think that is more frustrating than a dish that just sucks. If it sucks...then you just figure it is what it is. But if you fall short of your potential, it seems to be more bothersome. The idea of this pasta is awesome. Smokey, salty bacon, with sweet crisp snow peas, sweet ocean lobster - all covered in a garlic cream sauce. Are you hungry yet? Now, everything was cooked properly, don't get me wrong, but the garlic cream sauce was not very flavorful and garlic is so easy to get a strong flavor from, but the sauce was just ah...whatevs. I could take it or leave it. The snow peas were crisp, sweet and went quite well with the bacon, but the lobster was just okay. It did not pick up any flavor from anything else on the plate and therefore was a bit bland and even too oceany. As if it was not as fresh as it should have been, but at the same time, just thrown on top of the dish. Really the pasta would have been better without it. I say overrated because for $20 bucks and sounding so good on paper, it was just whatever. I might go and have it again, but only out of curiosity of how good it could be and if they could execute to it. The cheesecake was one of the best I have had. It was soft creamy and not overly sweet. The crust was amazing and sweet. Cheese can be too hard, not sweet enough, too sweet, too dense...this one was perfect from all angles. I also had two bites of the apple crostada, which had raw sugar sprinkled on top of this deliciously flaky crust filled with granny smith apples. It was good too!! So here is the summary. The prices are pretty reasonable here and the menu is pretty extensive. The ambiance is loud and seems like you're in a downtown hotel. The apps and deserts are wonderful, but one of their signature pastas was just alright. I will go back because of the proximity to my house and my curiosity of the other dishes, but the lobster pasta = overrated. Bella Luna, which is also up north has wonderful pasta dishes and even better prices...
