by Lelia Ferry on I'm not really a fan of Hwood. It's small, it's stuffy and it's in a weird location. The door crew is the standard set from lots of previous clubs around town, so at least you'll probably know them when you walk up. However, it's so damn packed just to walk up to the front and get whisked in you almost don't want to attempt it. But as a pretty girl, you'll get whisked in quickly and for free. No problemo. Just leave the meat at home girls. Whatever night you go on, the crowd is pretty lackluster at this point. I'm not a fan. Too many people I wouldn't party with at better venues let alone in a cramped small spot like this. Blech. If it weren't so easy for me to get in, I wouldn't bother with this spot at all. The positives: they have liquor. The negatives: last time I went, it was so hot that my girls n I nearly fainted (and we were wearing very little.) The douchey men that congregate there are not worth the lip gloss, ladies. It's tiny. Overall, I can't wait for a new spot in Hollywood to open up so people stop spam texting/emailing/facebooking the shit out of this spot. It's really not worth the effort.
by Miguel C. on Bordello Baby, Bordello. This bar/club is rapidly climbing my list of favorite bars/clubs/lounges and I only just started attending this bar in July 2009. The place is definitely small, but the decor, the music, the burlesque dancers, and the crowd more than make up for it. I went on fridays and the both times the burlesque dancers (which perform during the DJ's breaks throughout the night) were outstanding. They were not slutty, but rather entertaining and sometimes funny. When the DJ was playing, he rocked the house with a mixture of 80's, flashbacks, and rock en español, which I love because I'm so sick and tired of hip hop and house. The dance floor is not the biggest, but large enough to enjoy yourself with a beautiful baby. Solid thumbs up for Bordello Bar.
by Essie Sis on Damn, it was a mo-fo to get into this place. There are only two ways to get in...Reservations or bum rush the host (not recommended). I strongly recommend reservations. I went on Valentines Day with my " friend"/date" (Got tired of waiting for my prince to ask me). I heard about this place and was curious. The hors d' oevers are pricey, yummy, but not filling, so you might have to stop for a burger on the way home. Our waitress Ginger was fun and sassy and the show was very entertaining. I love how the dancers glided across the bar stage. The owner is a really groovy dude who reminded me of Buddy Holly and Truman Capote. He personally mingles with the crowd and is genuinely concerned if you are enjoying yourself. There is also a night-club downstairs, but we did not venture there, I am saving that for the next visit. We would go back again.
