by David D. on i had my bday party there with about 30 ppl. i got 2 tables originally, but there was a miscommunication over the phone with dane and i wasn't allowed to let more than 20 people upstairs. didn't know until i got the email back saying that the other 10 couldn't come up (this was after 8 when i was already out at dinner). so i get there, get a handshake n find out my other friends can't come up. after a while, i just decide to get the 3rd table so everyone can come upstairs. it would've been nice to get a hello or nething from dane after the miscommunication and after i got 3 tables and brought 30 customers. the really bad part was that they overcharged my cards so they got declined. my friend had to leave her id and cc as collateral. so although dane and the staff weren't trying to sabotage me or rip me off, a little more effort could've gone a long way to make it a great night. so as 2 stars says, meh, i've experienced better.

Mostly hip hop music. some might think it's "ghetto" and i have to say it doesn't look like infusion lounge or harlot or anything which are the nicer looking clubs in sf. Icon has 2 rooms, one main one which is probably 700 square feet and a 2nd smaller room which is too small to dance in. just to be honest. i always like the old school hip hop music. i usually meet people from the east bay when i used to go there. there is cover sometimes. I do not absolutely love this club nor do i go here anymore, but when i'm with east bay friends i take them here for the music. ok the thing i like about this club is the location on 8th and folsom because when i get tired of the crowd and music here, i can just go next door to Cat Club which is 3 times bigger and electronic and 80s music most of the time. It;s the easiest way to club hop. so in sum, icon is ok. small. but good hip hop music. and next to cat club for easy club hopping. but this isn't really my crowd. and i agree with one of the previous reviews, a lot of girls get trashed here and throw up all over the place. =(
