by Rossah M. on I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley and rarely get further west than Silver Lake or downtown. I was very happy to make it all the way to Culver City! My friends and I got together here for some drinks on a Saturday night. I love bars where you can sit and chat and have a unique decor and architecture, and especially am a fan of bars in old hotels. The place was beautiful. Good jazz playing too, I'm not sure who, but an older gentleman playing the saxophone so smoothly and "smokey" it was beautiful. I ordered the salmon pizza and was thrilled my six other friends were full and passed on it. So I got to eat it all. I had two glasses of champagne. It's not cheap, not expensive- worth the price for the experience. I even wondered for a second about having a wedding reception here. Head out there and party where the munchkins partied!
by Elvin Zuziak on I went to LIV last Friday and thought it was nice but not deserving of the hype. I guess compared to everything else in Miami LIV is a lot nicer, but it seemed more like we were in Vegas than in Miami. Even though it was the weekend of Art Basil, I didn't see anyone remotely related to the art industry there. It was more of just a standard club with great music and incredibly expensive drinks (i.e., $20 shots).
by Kurt Leboeuf on Good times at Bowlmor. Now while I have not been back in a few years to this New York institution, which was established in 1938, I highly recommend you check it out when you need something to do with a group or even for a date. It is not just an ordinary bowling alley...it is like an art gallery with some bowling lanes in it. They have 2 floors of lanes, so you will not have to wait long to play. If you get tired of bowling then check out one of their great pool tables or grab a bite to eat at their hip looking diner. Bowlmor loses a few stars due to the overpriced food and overpriced games. They have been known to get a few celebrities here including Michael Phelps, Drew Barrymore and Richard Nixon. So maybe you will get to see a celeb while throwing a few gutter balls...but probably not.
