Great hole in the wall bar in the West LA/Santa Monica area. I might just be a tad biased since I grew up in the SF area, and there were a lot of 49er fans inside. Perfect timing too since the Niners were playing the Raiders at the time of visit, though it was just pre-season. You would think that from the outside it would be dark, and dirty in the inside, but actually it seems to be a pretty decent bar. Yah, they have the flat screen tv's for the big games, but the decor is kinda like being in a saloon in the old west or something. Comes with an old wood antique like bar and background. There is a big 1931 map of San Francisco near the front entrance. They even have the old school cash registers. You know what it looks like, the ones where when it opens up, an angel gets its wings or something. For a hole in wall bar, this is a relatively big bar in the LA area. There is a big mural of the Golden gate bridge in the back. Plenty of black and white photos of the old SF, the gold rush, and homes in SF. Stained glass light holders on the ceilings. Behind the bar are plenty of tables for a dining experience as well. The bathroom is semi-dirty; not clean, but not extremely dirty either. It's bearable. There is a medium selection on beers, but plenty of whiskey and rum. Their happy hour is Monday through Friday from 4-7pm; $2 off wings, and quesadillas, and $1 off margaritas and domestic drafts. So if you are on your way to hit the Santa Monica clubs later on in the evening, stop by here for a shot or two first.

Whenever I come here (once a year maybe?) I feel like I'm not in New York City. I don't know why it just feels like this place is out of place. Nothing great about it and it's usually super crowded in a bad way. Drink prices are not as low as they should be in a place like this.

I tried not to be a grouch on my way to Oscar's in the freezing cold. Whenever I walk into a bar I have to check to see what's on tap. I was surprised to see about half of their taps were kicked. My group had a booth by the bar and I was shocked to see an ashtray on the table. Was I in the 1970's? Yes, I was because it looked like Rob Burgundy took a big dump all over this place. The décor inside was very 70s looking and wood paneling everywhere. I was in a dive bar. The beer prices here rock. This is a great bar to hang out at and drink with the prices on beer. I was bummed that the Guinness was kicked so I had to go with my Old Faithful. The jukebox in this dive played some good tunes. But, I still hate smoking in bars.
