by Frances J. on Good food, big portions, good atmosphere. You are paying more because this joint is smack in the middle of the hipster scene in downtown Hollywood. If you want dirt cheap, go elsewhere. What you get here is good, fresh food, well prepared and well served. We had the steak tacos and the ahi steak, both were excellent. I had the turkey ablondigas soup to start, it was good although overloaded with potatoes. Husbando had the shrimp bisque - it was good although pretty fishy and creamy for me, but he liked it. I did not think the $5 house margaritas were particularly strong. Huz had the blue margarita and it was quite a bit stronger, but also double the price. We enjoyed watching "El Mariachi" on the screens over the bar, did not enjoy shouting at each other over super-loud music in order to have a conversation, but the music picks were good, and they do have a great sound system. The sombreros on the ceiling are a total rip off of El Chavo in Silverlake, but hey, isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery? Folks complaining about the tacky decor are missing the point that this place is doing it all tongue in cheek, celebrating and blowing up every hokey Mexican decor item they could cram into the space.
by Sara Nourse on Ah, a nice, dark, neighborhoody place in a hood that gets dodgy quickly to the south, and expensive and ritzy to the North. This place is a great bridge between the two and not just because they carry La Fin du Monde (translates to: the end of the world) here. This is a great spot for a sausage sandwich and a few beers. Which can become 4. No, make that 6, in the course of a great night or weekend afternoon. Staff is awesome, and the other patrons are unassuming and fun in a way that reminds me of a Bukowski story. I like it there, and I wonder why I don't end up there more often.
by Tonda Mersman on Delux, what did you do to yourself? you get all these awesome reviews and then you let you asshole fall out. the first two times i ate here pretty close to just after you opened i had great food and good service. the grilled cheese was awesome and your burgers too..the fries were good, especially the sweet potato ones. the last 3 times i visited your bosom, i was turned away by the uppity, unintelligent service staff and the lack luster food. did i miss something? do you just not care about your appearance anymore? have you been turned out so long you are a used up toothless whore now? i think so. sorry honey, I've found some new piece of ass. keep on strolling. rateclubs.
