This review is strictly for my lunch/brunch experience at The Park. I usually never eat in the meat packing district or anywhere remotely close to it. For the simple fact that I feel it can be a bit overrated. A buddy of mine wanted to check this place out on an early Saturday afternoon before we spent the day on photography in Chinatown. The space is elegant, flashy and really sexzay! Most definitely makes for an awesome club. The outdoor space is beautiful and there was an abundance of families with their children there.. which made for an interesting plethora of baby laughter and ..of course.. baby screams lol I ordered the eggs benedict and my friend ordered the french toast, as well as a few beers for good measure. My eggs benedict were a bit cold, the home fries were dry and pretty bland. Worst of all, the hollandaise sauce had no flavor, it didn't add anything to the dish. It was nicely portioned and really nice to look at. But overall, the dish fell flat on its face. Nothing to write home about and nothing to be excited about. My friend was pissed because the waiter forgot a part of his dish and gave him a slight attitude when bringing it over to him. I will have to try this place again when its a club/lounge and when no food is being served, maybe then my review will change.

I thought it might be too early to post a review of Rip's, considering that they just opened their doors on December 4. The bar is completely renovated and bears no resemblance to the former nightclub Paco Paco. In all respects, Rip's promises to be a solid neighborhood bar, what I call a pub. Neighborhood bars do not have to be dives, though I would never knock a good dive, they have served me well in the past. 16th Street already has a nice variety with the Barrio Cafe (trendy) and Philthy Phil's (dive) to the south and Bar One (gay) to the north. Sitting on the western edge of the Avalon Historic neighborhood, Rip's directly faces the Greater Cheery Lynn Historic neighborhood across 16th Street. These neighborhoods no doubt will prove to be the base clientele for Rip's. The 1950's stylized sign out front with the bent red arrow clearly states "Ales & Cocktails" so don't ask for a dinner menu. This is a drinking establishment, the extensive use of wood in the remodel gives the place a very warm feel. The pictures I have seen on this site of the interior do not do it justice, each time I have visited, the lights were low, the juke box was going and there was a din of conversation. Bottled beer is $3.00 domestic $3.50 for imports, roughly $3 or $4 for a healthy pour of middle shelf liquor. The free pretzels are a very nice touch, this is something the Lost Leaf and countless other bars around town should emulate. I strongly recommend the Blue Moon draft. At 5.4 % alcohol, this cloudy sweetish Belgian "style" white ale garnished with an orange wedge goes down easier than a light lager. The barmaids are very friendly and attentive, the prices are absolutely reasonable and the atmosphere is relaxed. Everything is in place for Rip's to become a successful neighborhood pub.

Sugar Cafe is SWEET!!! The decor is modern and clean, well lit with a decent amount of seating if you want to meet up with your friends and have a cup of tea or a small bite to eat. We came to Sugar Cafe on a very lazy Sunday thinking they had the usual coffee shop usuals--pastries, bagels, drinks. But what we didn't know is they have hot food too--bacon, eggs, breakfast burritos, oatmeal--pretty much any breakfast food you can think off. I think they even have french toast, but don't quote me on that. Anyways, I'm very (VERY) particular about my breakfast burritos because I'm very particular about my eggs. Sugar Cafe makes excellent breakfast burritos though that don't make you feel like sh*t after eating them. You know, the humongous burrito that is as big as your head and when you're done eating it you don't know where the whole thing went because it didn't even taste that good??? Yeah...the opposite of that. Real eggs, real cheese, real salsa (onions, cilantro, etc.). Mmmm...it's Sunday morning and I want one now... The service is okay. Everyone is pretty nice, but it can get backed up and a little slow. I wanted to get up and get my burrito after seeing it sitting on the counter for a few minutes waiting to be served.
