The food is definitely a 5, but if you take everything else into consideration, I would give this place 4.5 stars.  The food is amazing but the decor is a little weird and the servers are sort of hit or miss. The first time I went, my boyfriend and I were seated in one of the more intimate 2-seater tables off to the side and the restaurant wasn't too crowded.  You immediately notice that there are lights around the booth tables that run throughout the middle of the restaurant and they change from green to red to blue to purple...it's just weird.  I guess once you're drunk off the sake, it's a bit cooler.  My boyfriend thought the old bonsai trees they have on the way to the bathroom are cool.  I thought the sculpture in the front of the restaurant is interesting.  The second time I went, I went with more people and we sat in the middle part--I def prefer the side tables for 2.  The seats are slightly elevated and it's more intimate.  Also, the second time around, we got this very strange waiter who was so awkward and formal, it was obvious he takes his job at an iron chef-restaurant very seriously because he talked like the host/chairman of iron chef (who wikipedia calls "the flamboyant Takeshi Kaga"). Anyway, I definitely will be back for the food.  Like others have said, the Black Cod Miso is wonderful.  I've had it only once before at NY's Nobu and morimoto's is just as buttery and delicious.  The Yellowtail Tartare was just ok.  The omakase and the $75 chef's combination are so worth it, totally awesome -- the fish is just so damn tasty.  There is an extensive sake list but it's pretty pricey!

I was 20 years old in Sydney Australia, incredibly drunk sitting on the lawn of a Cricket field with my buddy Gavin looking at the stars and talking about life when he turns to me and tells me he's gay. It was the first time anyone ever came out to me, and I won't lie... I was a little nervous... two guys sitting under the stars, and he comes out to me. Not having any experience like this, and not knowing how to react, I calmly say to him "Hey... why are you telling me this right now man?" And he says, "Don't worry mate, you're not my type, I've just never told anyone before, and after getting to know you for the last six months you're first person I've ever met that I can trust to not be a jerk about it". I couldn't have told you what my response would have been ten seconds before he told me... it had just never come up... but my honest response was that I was honored. Guy trusted me with information, that at the time, could have gotten his ass kicked. We sat there and talked about his secret life and my education in tolerance began. What the hell do I care who you sleep with? It's weird that people get so mad or freaked out about the gay community. To anyone out there that still has tolerance issues, Shakespeare and I have this to say to you... "The lady doth protest too much, methinks...  it's 2009 get over it." Hamlet Act 3, scene 2 That all said... Blake's is the gayest bar I've ever been in! Jeez-us Atlanta! When you go gay, you go GAY! The drag show was clearly a time honored tradition and the drinks were so strong I'm still drunk this morning, but seriously... this place needs to be about an acre larger and have a dance floor and stage! Just admit it Blake's... you need to expand the venue. Atlanta demands it! ... now excuse me... I'm going  back to bed. Ow.

I am basing my ratings on my own time going here..it was the most memorable birthday i had!!! more memorable than my 21st birthday.. I remembered like it was just yesterday... It was on a friday night.. a pouring night.. I thought no one was going to come to my birthday party because of the horrible weather.. people were starting to text me here and there because of weather and other miscellaneous reasons.. I had dinner right before going to sute 181 at Ponzu..( refer to my review ).. we ended up walking to suite 181 under tents and whatnot to not get wet since our parking garage waas right in the middle of Ponzu and Suite 181.  Because of the rain that night, not AS many people would show up like how a club would get packed.  Free with guestlist!! Normally though the lines for suite 181 would be pretty long curving around the corner.. I've been in it before and then i just left.  The area is DEFINITELY pretty ghetto though.. so stay safe.. pick the right night.. since it can be a super mixed crowd..... that you might not have fun with...... The upstairs floor was closed so only the bottom one was open.  Surprisingly though.. the bottom floor turned out to be FULLY packed by the end of the night!!  I wish i was able to hang out up top with the nice lighted areas and couches and floors though.  but it is okay! I don't know what happened to me and the rest of my friends that night.  We all feel that someone sneaked in something into our drinks.. Drinks here are strong ladies and gentlemen!!!! NICE!!!!! There were some go go dancers from what I remember.. music was pretty good.. nice mix.. bartenders tried their best to serve all of us since only the downstairs bar was open. because by the end of the night.. at least 10 of us were dead gone and drunk... we all successfully arrived back in Berkeley safely.. but many of us ended up throwing up... When i woke up the next morning of my birthday.. all 10 of us were passed in my friend's apartment.. 2 on the bed. 2 on each couch. one on the floor hugging a pillow. 2 on another bed...it was sooo fun :)
