I've been here a few times since it's a block from my friend's condo. The patio is a great space with plenty of seating, but it sucks if it's raining - there's not too much room to be found under the roof. Still, as the weather warms up, it's nice to sit by the fountain and chat with friends, especially if it's at night when people watching turns into "What will Opera churn out next?" contest. Who knew Gadzooks was still in business? As for the food, it's a little pricey for what it's worth, though it's decent enough. Portions are big enough to share in most cases - which I take full advantage of to save some bucks - but there isn't much on the menu that makes me indecisive. Not that I hate telling my server "Another couple of minutes..." for half an hour, but it's nice to have a little bit of choice going on. The monkey bread is an excellent dessert, however, and worth it! Beer is a bit over-priced for what it is. Martinis are your average prices and at the very least are strong. There's a decent variety of martinis and mixed drinks to choose from (as well as being able to ask for whatever it is your liver desires). I've seen flip cup here from time to time; I imagine you ask the server and they'll set it up. Service has been mixed for me. Sometimes it's attentive, sometimes it's not. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason for it; there could be three other tables seated or a packed house. Hit or miss all the way, but when they hit it, they hit it well. really it's the patio that makes this place amazing compared to the spots around it, and if you're looking to people watch over beers at night, I'd recommend grabbing a spot by the fence and watch to your heart's content.

This place is everything stereotypical LA is not, which is to say unpretentious, friendly, and accessible (lots of free parking). I'm a big fan for all the reasons people have mentioned (i.e., great burgers, excellent fries, large selection of beers on tap, sports on the tubes, friendly atmosphere with seating always available) but more than all of that, SF saloon really reminds me of the SF I loved. It feels like a homey, neighborhood joint you'd find in Noe Valley (though I wish there was a jukebox!) where people come to have a good time and catch up with friends. Not to mention, they have a pretty strong margarita, the SF Killer margarita to be exact.
