For a few months, I worked around the corner from NCT on Polk. And I loved them. I thought that this was the ultimate in crispy taco eating. And then... I moved to the fog and discovered Nick's at Underdog's in the Outer Sunset. And even though I still love the original NCT, I have to say that the pescado taco Nick's way at Underdog's gives the original quite a run for its money. If you're a south-sider like me and Russian Hill is a schlep, check out Underdog's on 20th and Irving.

Came here on a sunday for their $15 pasta + wine special... the ambiance of this place was very nice, and I give them props on the set-up and the service. Seems like a very nice date place and with a good location. That being said, it was a bit pricey and not a lot of food. Obviously you have to pay for quality but I left here feeling very hungry still. Haven't tried their pizza but that looked small as well... and to be honest, I don't think the quality of the dish was even that good enough. It's better than Figo, i'll give you that, but not so much better to warrant the smaller quantity and higher price. If I come back here again and taste something outstanding or more plentiful, I might bump this up one star.

Intimate and lively, bOb is a great little nook for true hip-hop heads. Don't let the small space sway you, as it seems to manage all the folks grinding it out on the dance floor (or doing the cabbage patch, which seemed to be the signature throwback move the last time I went). If you truly want to make the most of the space, get there on the earlier side and claim one of the tables as your own and assume the dance floor around it. A good strategy for not feeling jostled as you enjoy all the old Tribe and Biggie in the background. DJ Church was playing requests all night long (although he missed my request for De La Soul...maybe next time!) and even squeezed in some Frankie Beverly and Maze and older throwbacks as well. There is coat check, but a few of the more obnoxious patrons thought that they could skip the $2 fee and just stick their coats on top of us at our table. Manners, kids, manners. Maybe their mom lets them hang their coats on her like a coat rack, but alas, I'm not her. Expect to have to squeeze your way through the pulsating crowd to get to the bathroom or the bar, but if you plan to shake it more than anything else, you shouldn't have a problem. If you are looking for a night of old school hip-hop over the same old Top 40 club bangers, check this place out.
