I am not a fan of Sunset Blvd because of how loud it is, bombarded with LA's worst drivers, so the fact that this cafe sits smack in the middle of this chaos just lost it a star. One solution would be to guard off the patio that faces the busy street with glass doors or, at the very least, some curtains. Another con is that it's trying to be too many things at once. Is it a hookah lounge, a cafe, or a sports bar? I don't think the dark, plush furniture with their hookahs go well with huge flat screens playing American football. The atmospheres are in serious competition with each other and the one that's winning is the polluted Sunset Blvd. What makes this place "A-OK," in rateclubs's terms, is the friendly staff. Michael, one of the owners, introduced himself and offered a hookah, on the house. They're definitely taking the "family establishment" approach, of which I'm always a big fan. Their paninis looked good, though I didn't try one, and they have a pretty good coffee/cappuccino selection. The tea options could use a little boost. If I lived in the area, I would probably check in once in a while, but I won't take the 10 for it.

Food is alright, it's definitely not Mexican, but Tex-Mex, and as far as that goes, it's not spectacular, but not at all bad. The real reason anyone comes here is for the drinks, which are definitely tasty, but I don't know if the 2 shaker limit is really necessary unless you are drinking both shakers within a 30 minute time period, and nobody is ever in and out of Trudy's in 30 minutes. That's the worst part- I have never been to Trudy's and been seated in less than 30 minutes. Even on a Saturday at 3 in the afternoon, we waited around 15 minuts, and actually walked around the deck until we spotted people leaving, then sat down at the table while it was still covered in their dirty dishes. Also, people always want to come here in big groups, but if your group is more than 5, it is very unlikely that you will actually all be sitting at the same table. Parking at this location is pretty bad, a tiny lot that is usually full and street parking that is normally taken up by UT students trying to park near campus for free. So that's the good and the bad, I hear the other locations are better about wait and seating, though. Service is good. Oh, and they won't split checks, which is another disaster for group dining.

This is not for the sober, although my sober Mom did enjoy her chicken sandwich after a football game. The chicken is okay, but the burgers and onion rings are darn good. It can get cramped, but go around 1:30am, grab another pitcher of beer and eat that burger that tastes so good after a night at the bars. My favorite menu item...for its name alone...is the Vegetable Basket. It is a lot of veggies deep fried for your late night pleasure!
