by Annie B. on Really enjoy this environment inside and out. Nice, consistent service. Agree drinks take a long time ... but I'm a sucker for those cool liquors, and they are very unusual AND very tasty, which is a good combination. Wine list is poor. Really fun music on Sunday night and relaxed vibe. Cheeses great, salad good, but snapper in parchment with preserved oranges needs help -- sugar snap peas were underdone and had not been snapped, so they were also stringy, and oranges were fresh, not preserved, so the dish comes across as fish in orange juice. As with anywhere ... recommend you ask when you are seated what they are out of before you get your hopes up .... But yeah, for the charming environment and the doing-something-unique-well factor we'll be coming back for sure.
by Judy K. on There is so much to say about this terrible place that I can't possibly begin to describe it all. This was truly the worst clubbing/lounge/nightlife experience I've ever had - from LA to SF to Vegas to NY to DC to Hong Kong! The staff/bouncers/security here is COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE. Major power-tripping issues. The manager is a big bullshitter and the "security manager" is a douche. After the manager told me I could speak with him and asked me to wait off to the side, mainly so that I could complain about the way his security handled a situation, the general manager left and the "security manager" gave me a hard time and refused to let me see him. The music sucked ass. We had 4 different people complain, especially since we were a party of 30 or so, and THE ONLY PEOPLE in the room. You would think the DJ would accommodate our preferences (Top 40/Hip Hop instead of lameass 80s techno shit), but apparently 4 complaints and 30 people standing around taking pictures on the dance floor was not enough of a hint. Speaking of the size of our party, we had bottle service and a good girl/guy ratio, and dropped a lot of money to be there. Still, we waited outside in the cold at 10 p.m. so their lameass bouncers could hassle the birthday girl and try to charge more than was previously agreed upon. I personally think we had to stand there to generate interest on the street, since H.Wood is tucked away in the middle of a small street and there really isn't anything special about it. There is a reason no one was lining up besides us. Because they suck. STAY AWAY. They don't deserve your money or your time. And with the shit the bouncers/security give you, you'd at least think you were partying with some celebrities in Vegas or New York. But no, you're at a tinyass wannabe hot spot in the middle of a sleepy Hollywood street. Save your time -- there are plenty of better spots just minutes away.
