This place is total pandemonium! I came to Playhouse on a Sunday night after the Cinespia screening of Purple Rain because I needed to get my dance on after watching all that Prince sexiness. I came to right place for sure. My boyfriend waited in the SUPER LONG line while I went home and changed my clothes to be more club-appropriate. This was a good strategy, as we would have never gotten in otherwise. The door control/door policy here is typical Hollywood BS. It was a Sunday night and there was still this ridiculous line outside. Not because the club was 'at capacity' as the woman trying to sell bottle service had implied, but because thats what clubs in Hollywood do to create an air of exclusivity for their venue. I have to say that this womans (a promoter or employee of Playhouse) sales pitch was absolutely pathetic. It was obvious that the night was winding down (Midnight) and they sent her out there to see if she could lure in a few more suckers who were now desperate to gain entry because they were unnecessarily made to stand in a line for 2 hours. No takers. Not surprised. Anyway, when I showed up with my ladyness we got in no problem. The main qualification for getting into clubs without a hassle is that you have a vajayjay. I grabbed the BF out of the line and marched right up to the front and was let right in. We then realized that it was a $25 cover. ROBBERY I SAY! Our friends who were waiting for us inside had arrived before 10 and only paid $10. Lesson learned - the later it gets at Playhouse, the more greedy they get and they know that your more desperate to get in, so they jack up the price. Classy. Its not like they dont make tens of thousands of dollars a night anyway. After coughing up the dough to get in we entered the main room of the club and I was in amazement at the size of the place. The ceilings are super high, it feels like a warehouse rave almost. My senses were overwhelmed here. I immediately smelled cigarette and weed smoke INSIDE THE CLUB, and it was clear that this was kind of an anything goes atmosphere. At the bottle service booths on either side of the main room there were female patrons dancing on the backs and tops of the booths against the wall. I saw more than one vajayjay bumping and grinding against the wall, wannabe go-go dancer style. Like literally, I saw a few ladies lady bits. The dancefloor is just below the main room and was totally poppin. The music was great and everyone was having a great time, dancing or not. You definitely need to be intoxicated to be at this club, otherwise your just going to get pissed at all the people stepping on you and acting belligerent. The drinks are super overpriced and not poured strong enough, not surprising. It was $13 for a stoli and sprite and $16 for a Long Island Iced Tea. ROBBED AGAIN! They also have an upstairs area with more seating, a small dancing area and another small bar. This is where the smoke smell was coming from, as patrons are allowed to smoke indoors because there's a giant hole in the roof, like a skylight but without the glass. However, this air-hole does not provide enough ventilation to clear out the smoke, thus the entire bar smelled like spliffs to me. I started to realize after looking more closely at the clientele that there are A LOT of underage girls here. I mean I can only guess about that but Im pretty sure I know the difference between a 17 year old and a 21 year old. Mayyyybe thats just me. A previous rateclubser touted this place as being the "palace of poon" and I would have to agree and add that it may also be the palace of jailbait. So in conclusion - Playhouse is totally out of control, the door policy is wack sauce, and the drinks are overpriced. The music and dancing are really good, and the crowd is overall very good looking. There are 2 areas to smoke and 2 bars. They stay open later than closing time, which is a plus, but those bright lights still come on around 2, and everyone knows when the lights come on its time to bail. This is a great place to come with a bunch of girls, but if you have a large group of guys your pretty much going to screwed out of a lot of time and money.

Looking at Fados from outside......I was disappointed and almost heartbroken because I LOVED the old Fados....it was so authentic and well....Irish! I walked into Fados and it was very busy...from the decor to the happy hour crowd. It is nice inside, bigger, more space for bartenders to make drinks, and practical in every other sense; however, I miss my old Fados!!! The cobblestone floors, wood furniture, dark smokey bar feel......I just could not shake off this feeling. So I did what anyone else in my position would do....I started to drink.....my friend found a cozy spot in the back. (According to this older gentelmen who was on his way to the restroom stopped over at our cozy spot and told us that the place where we were sitting is called "snookh" in Irish. Don't know how accurate this information is since he was just a wee bit intoxicated....nonetheless we appreciated the info). The waiter came up to us almost immediately after we sat to get our drink orders and give us their very Celtic looking menus. I was impressed. I ordered Leffe on draft, which was very fresh. My friends enjoyed Paulana. For appetizer we ordered a sampler platter which had chicken tenders, chicken quesadilla and potato wedges. I would have to say everything on that sampler platter was so good! A friend ordered the potato wedges with a side of curry sauce, and I kid you not it tasted like channa bhatura (Indian dish: spiced beans with Indian bread). Yummo! After the sampler appetizer and a couple rounds of Leffe I was not too hungry, so I ordered a light sandwich (tomato and mozzeralla on a bagette). I was very skeptical ordering this dish because I was afraid the bagette would be hard and chewy, but I just took a chance and I am so glad I did because the bagette was soft and light. Overall the service was excellent, beers were fresh and good, and the food was very tasty and fresh! (Don't be mistaken.....i still miss my old Fados.....but this new one is not so bad!) Cheers!
