by Tracy D. on We had quite the good time here last night. Friends from out of town, I decided to take them here. Started with cocktails at the bar and it was still happy hour (til 8 pm!) so we had half priced cocktails that were deeeelicious. And our bartender was the super sweet short-haired gal who had zero attitude. A great start to our evening! We moved into the dining room and we had a very nice server who was also completely forgetful. It was hard to dislike her because she was so nice and helpful...until she walked away from your table and forgot several things she had promised/suggested etc...It was actually kind of funny. Overall, she was great and treated us very well. She helped us decide what to get for our tasting menus. I decided to get the lite 6 course (be aware, these are very small, people) $40 menu while my two male friends got 11 courses (for $88 I think?) -- If you get the $40 menu it's chosen for you...if you get 8 courses or higher you choose yourself. She was very helpful to my pals in picking out their dishes. The sommelier was also very good and my friend gave him a region (Burgundy) and a price range ($70ish) and he brought us something and it was very tasty. Here are some cons about this place: the 'courses' or small plates came out far too fast and close to one another. Well, they would be on top of each other and then there would be a 10 min chunk of time. It was kind of strange. I agree with another rateclubser here that it's nice to have time (not too much) to let a dish linger before the next one arrives. The kitchen should definitely work on this as it's pretty annoying, even if the food is super good, which most of it was! I enjoyed all of my food (and tried a bite of my friends other dishes and loved them too) and I was surprised actually how much I enjoyed my meal here. It's kind of outrageous there...it's so Hollywood and the outlandish theme of Louis XIV...and the big XIV hedges out front...I think you have to have a sense of humour about it. At least I do. But at the end of the day, it was near perfect food, near perfect service and with happy hour 6 to 8 pm, Monday's 50% off wine and a $40 mini tasting menu? These are all very good business manoevers for a swank place to be more accessible to those of us who have some cash but are still feeling cautious these days. I look forward to returning here and trying the 8 or 11 courses myself...on a Monday for that 50% off wine deal! Bon appetit.
by Claribelle C. on I think it really depends on what exactly you come here for. My reason was for Ghostly's Matthew Dear on a Thursday night. He was fantastic, so was the space...to which I later found out that this was the same space they filmed Kill Bill Vol.1. I'd def. come back for a good show.
