by Courtney P. on I'm not a club person, and I was really in a club mood this night, so I am sure I rated this one a bit higher. Also I got in without paying and bypassing the line, so it was already a win the moment I walked in the door. I felt like the place was more run down that I was thinking it would be, but like I said free entry makes it way better. Getting drinks was fairly easy for how crowded it was, and I liked the music. But I was already drunk and I was just happy they played 'Tik Tok" that night. That's the kind of mood I was in. I'd go back if I could get in for free again, as it hit the spot for what I was looking for. However, I wasn't a fan of this couple dancing inappropriately. I am not talking a lot of grinding; I'm talking motions you only do in the bedroom. They even had a crowd of people around them telling them to get a room. I'm not sure why you need to dance quite like that, but it did make me laugh some!
by micah f. on I've seen great shows at the Cafe du Nord, and have fond memories of nights spent there. It's speakeasy ambiance is enveloping and sets a good scene. The best part about the du Nord is their booking. They get wonderful shows there. However, the drinks ain't cheap, the sight lines aren't good, the acoustics are meh, and the layout isn't really conducive to a good show, being long, low, and narrow. San Francisco being the place it is, I'd rather see a show in a dozen other clubs, but I still go to the du Nord when someone I want to see there ends up on their lists. Meh is totally an adjective.
