There are a beautiful variety of beers offered here, and the bartender, after I received my Ommegang Witte a bit too warm, happily, please note HAPPILY, served me a chilled one. We went on a night with your garden variety hardcore music, and it was great to hear the music from the bar without having to get my ears blown out from where the stage was. That's right! Don't want to pay the cover?! Sit at the bar, watch the band through the see-through window and you can catch what's what. Surrounding this venue is Fette Sau for BBQ, pizza across the street, FUll Circle for some Skeeball down the street, and Spuyten Duyvil with a fantastic outside area to relax after a great show. Kudos.
by Maggie L. on The food is great, too bad everything else isn't. The restrooms were traditional New Orleans; dirty, run down, and sticky. The clientele did do a major switch mid meal, so I guess I can blame the condition of the restroom on the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, but damn... I don't even see how the floors get that sticky unless someone is pissing sugar in there. Hard to reach the sink for a much needed hand washing because dirty wads of paper towels are dropped everywhere. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't this nasty BOTH times I had to use it in the hour and a half we were there. ... and that's the other thing; we got there at 3, didn't leave until 5. What the HELL takes that long to prepare? It didn't seem quite that long cause we were busy sending back messed up drinks and dirty silverware, but still... Food finally arrives and it's great :) the buffalo shrimp was so delicious we almost wanted to order another if it hadn't taken 20 minutes to get that one. Entrees finally find us, and the catfish is good. Potatoes are boring, red beans and rice are good. Bang's creative looking dish of chicken, mashed sweet potatoes, onions, and more fried onions is delish. Or maybe we were just so hungry at that point we'd have eaten our own poo if served to us. They add 18% gratuity if you use coupons. Short version if review: great food if you have all day to wait for it, and are aware that your shoes may get stuck to the floor if you need to pee. I probably won't be back.
