After reading some reviews and calling The Edison, I was a little nervous about the dress code. I'll admit, I've lived in Hawai'i for a year where aloha shirt, shorts, and slippahs are fine for almost anywhere. However, when the person who answered the phone said no sneakers, not even back leather sneakers, I kept thinking I should dress in a suit. Well, I didn't go all out in the suit, but I did opt for black leather dress shoes. So, what did I see at The Edison? Mostly people in suits, others in slacks and dress shirts, and one guy who looked like he came straight outta "American Me." I'm not hating, just wish I could have dressed down. As mentioned before, the decor is gorgeous. This is where you take out of town guests, dates, and business partners to show off L.A. My friends and I visited for the Happy Hour specials. Can't beat a 35 cent martini. All drinks $13 and under are discounted 40%, which brings them to the price they should be regularly. There are five appetizers for $5 each. I wish all the appetizers were $5, but this is the City of Angels, not the City of Hopes and Dreams. We all went with Kobe beef sliders, which were delicious. If you are at a table then the average wait for a drink is 15 minutes. This is a problem of staffing on the management's part, rather than poor staff members. Speaking of tables, if you know you will go to The Edison then make reservations. We arrived at 6P (they open at 5P) on a Thursday and saw only four small tables (for two people) open. Almost all others had "reserved" cards on them.

Came here specifically for a dog shelter network holiday benefit thing, so there was an open bar for a while and then my wallet promptly began to empty once I had a scotch and soda. It was smaller than I thought it was going to be, especially considering other clubs in the area, but it made it sort of cozy. The layout felt like if you took a high school dance, or maybe line dancing night, kept the center dance floor, but replaced all the seating with tons of ottomans and couches that get in the way of walking to the bar and tinged everything red and pink and other assorted hot colors. Maybe that's a bad description, but there's literally a square dance area in the middle. If you're the only one dancing you're going to fall in everyone's eyeline. The funniest thing here though was a dude who did an acoustic version of sexyback. It rivaled that acoustic version of "my way" that I saw at Joe O's. The crowd was sufficiently well dressed but since it was post-work plus a specific benefit, I'm sure it gets even trendier on the weekends. Or just cramped.
