Went here for my friends 22nd birthday thought none of us have been there before. We showed up with like 8 girls, 6 guys and the promoters were so lame. They thought they were like the most powerful people on earth. No.. We thought he'd let us in since it was a girl's birthday and we had more girls than guys. He ended up making us a deal for girls to get in free (uhh ya we should always be) and guys would pay cover but we had to buy a table. Then I run into a friend who was promoting also and said he could have gotten us in for free. Even he said the guy at the front was stupid. Just because you're a promoter doesn't mean you're CEO status. nawwww. Inside the club it wasn't packed at all, which I liked the spacing so I wasn't bumping into people but obviously it shows no one really likes this place. The interior is nice, DJ is whatevs. Of course playing the top 40 (or top 5 playing on the radio 24/7) like most LA clubs. I guess it depends on who is promoting. The crowd wasn't that great, all Asian. I liked mixed crowds or at least not 100% Asian. Adios Marbella!

We got to H Wood around 9:30PM this past Saturday night, being 4 guys we did not want to take any chances of getting there late and not being able to get in. There is an underground parking garage right before you get to H Wood on Orange Ave and it is valet style and only $10, valet at H Wood is $20. The main bouncer was a friendly guy who told us that the lounge opens at 10:30PM and that we should come back around then, being the seasoned veterans we are we asked if we could just pay the cover, get stamped, be on our way and come back at 10:30 and get in without any issues (We were going to be meeting up with a birthday group). The bouncer told us that was not possible and we made a deal with him to just get us in when we got back. Off we went on a trip down Sunset to Geisha House to meet up with some friends and once we left there we went over to Playhouse to check it out, honestly do not even bother going to Playhouse unless you are famous or getting bottle service or something, we stood in line for 20 minutes with a few B list celebrities and then left after not having moved an inch. We came back to H Wood and as promised our bouncer let us right in after a standard 20 dollars a pop, of course there was no line around 11:40 which we thought was unusual. There was a very small crowd in H Wood that steadily grew, most of which were USC/UCLA students, I noticed X marks on hands and wrist bands, not sure what was up with that. I am assuming there were underage people? The rest of the crowd was a mix, but on the younger side. There was plenty of open seating and because of our earlier escapade down Sunset we decided to chill out on the outside patio for a bit and have a few drinks before wandering around. The couches are comfortable and great for people watching. Our drinks were made strong by a attentive, and must I add attractive bartender with minimal fuss. A Black Label and Soda will run you $13. Not too shabby. What is hilarious is that there is a huge Effen vodka billboard outside H Wood, but guess what, they do not carry Effen! Off we went after two rounds to the dance floor upstairs, this place is very dark, the stairs are metal, so watch your step, especially the ladies in high heels. The dance floor was a hot and humid place with a bar on one side and booths for bottle service surrounding the other sides, It was packed but you could still squeeze your way around. Once again getting drinks was a piece of cake. After about 15-20 mins on the dance floor we noticed an opening on the other side of room, not being able to handle the hot humid air anymore we headed that way to explore and were pleasantly surprised by another open patio with a huge bar. Great place to just hang out and take a break from the sauna dance floor. After a few minutes we wandered downstairs to checkout the dance floor there, it was okay. DJ sourmilk was DJ'ing upstairs and he was playing a good mix of stuff, I was surprised by some of the unusual non FM radio underground hits he was piping out which was great! The guys restroom upstairs was a mess, no dividers between two closely placed urinals, come on now, what were they thinking? And the toilet paper roll holder in the stall had been yanked off of the wall. Soft soap dispenser, a cheap one from target? That was bizarre, why not a regular industrial size one? They designed a nice club and made crappy little restrooms. Final summary, this place could be so much better! It only needs a few minor tweaks and fixes, like proper venting on the sauna dance floor upstairs, redoing their horribly designed restrooms, making sure the drunk college kids do not get out of control to the point of passing out, which we saw. And not auto charging you a 20% gratuity if you spend more than 20 dollars and use your plastic, which I thought was lame!
