by John A. on OMG this place is a joke... $6 for a half pint (if that much) of crappy Stella Artois in a plastic cup. My friends paid $13 for mixed drinks which came in even smaller plastic cups. Im not even going to go into the overdressed clientele....
by Stephanie N. on I have always been such a fan. Been a handful of times and it's one of the best places to go out in the city. It has everything you want: 1) Great music - mostly top 40 or hip hop on several flat screens all around the place 2) Great for dancing OR just hanging out at the bar/lounge - complete with a fireplace and comfy chairs! classy ;) 3) Substantial room for just the bar/loungey area patrons as well as a substantial dance floor 3) A great crowd, don't see too many d-bags or Jersey Shore wannabe's here. Mostly mid 20s-early 30s...Mayes is also a little nicer than your average bar so people are normally dressier than say, at McTeague's. Although they're not pretentious- anyone can come in! 4) One of the best atmospheres in the city 5) Drinks are a decent price - long island was less than $10 6) Bathrooms are clean!!! a HUGE plus The one and only bad point: the fog MACHINE! We already live in fog city...and I can usually get away fr the fog going INSIDE a bar. This was not the case last night (a Saturday night)...fog machine was on STEROIDS and it was difficult to see my friends just a couple feet away. May I also point out...when did fog machines become "kewl" again? I have to knock a star off for this... Always have a great time at Mayes though. It's the perfect place to invite ALL your friends to, the ones who likes bars, the ones who like clubs, the ones who like to dress up, the ones who like jeans and tennies...it all works at Mayes!!!
