by Melanie N. on How have l lived in SF this long without having been to Mighty?! A good question. Perhaps it's because of the lack of a defining neighborhood (does this really fall in SOMA, rateclubs?! Seems a bit of a border between 3 areas) - where else do you hang out nearby (well, I suppose I do spend a lot of time at Gold's Gym but that's about as close as I get to this place). But I digress... Mighty is much bigger than most SF lounge/clubs that I've been to in a while which is great unless you're at the Digg Party for Web 2.0 and a million people show up (including a giant unicorn!). But I imagine that on most nights this place would be really cool. Vaulted ceilings, not too many narrow areas. It's got a very urban decor with brick walls and pillars...bar is a decent size although can get crowded. Biggest beef is the cash only bit but hey, that's pretty normal within SF bars. A couple of DJ's played here last night, some of the mixing was good, others were crap...but I still had a good time and could fancy myself going here again depending on how crazy it gets and the crowd. But overall Mighty gets a solid 4 stars. Even if the giant unicorn isn't always there.
by Randell Dreessen on I am giving STK three stars for now. I went for a birthday party in the private dining room upstairs and these are my thoughts: Upon arrival we had to walk through the restaurant to get to the private room. I was shocked at how PACKED this place was. It was above and beyond the normal business at a restaurant. There were people everywhere! It felt more like a club than a restaurant honestly. Very fun vibe. Finally got to the private dining room. Beautiful room, but absolutely freezing! Between the arctic temps in the room and the fact that I had just landed at JFK an hour and a half before, I started up those cocktails quick! The food overall was pretty good at STK, however, the service was really terrible. The waiter was very kind and I could tell he was trying, but he could not alone handle our table. That many people with so many drink orders going etc., management should have designated two servers to the table and not leave this poor guy to fend for himself. We ordered about 4 seafood platters with crab and shrimp cocktail, oysters and sashimi. It was ok. Not the best I had ever had. Caesar salad was delicious. The strip steak itself was tasty and very large in portion. Dessert, I wasn't thrilled. I will go back and try it again without a large party and hope my experience will be a bit more impressive.
