Love, love, LOVE the Salt Lick. Have been going here for several years every chance I get to go to Austin on business (which thankfully is often since we have a Texas Toll Tag for our car). I never realized there was an airport location (usually drive from Colorado) and I am not sure if they still have their small location on Hwy 360, but I have always found the original location to be the best (In my opinion, BBQ is like Chinese food...needs to be made and consumed from the source right away. To take it and reheat it out of it's element is not so good). My husband and I always get the Family Style dinner and then the pecan pie, to take back to the hotel to consume after we have thoroughly digested our proteins. I really like their pecan pie. It's supposedly an ancient family secret and I just hope that the recipe gets passed on in case the person making them either quits or God forbid, leaves this world (It's like when I heard the lovely Biscuit Lady Carol Faye from the Loveless Cafe in Nashville passed away...she was such a sweetheart....so glad to have met her and to have eaten her awesome buttermilk biscuits). I am partial to brisket and have found theirs to be very, very good. The Family Style includes brisket, ribs and smoked sausage. Those meats come with potatoes, beans, vinegar slaw and white bread. However, it's the sauce, IMHO, that is the kicker. It's not ketchup-y or vinegar-y, but rather an amber liquid bursting with flavor. Not many people know that you can also get a spicier habenero version at the restaurant if you ask for it. Seating is communal or sometimes on your own if you get the smaller picnic tables in the covered porch area. I really like that area because they have trees and bird feeders outside of the windows and you can view some awesome, native Texas birds out there. Texas truly has some of the best BBQ around and being an aficionado, I recommend the Salt Lick highly.

I've been to better clubs, I think it's fine once you get inside but it wasnt very busy. When you're outside the very first thing you notice is all the homeless hanging around the area which makes you feel a bit worried. I was part of a birthday party so we had a special private section that was closed off which was neat. There are other cooler places that are more hip, but I personally thought it was ok...
